M850i Convertible Owners

I just joined the forum hoping to get some info on the M850i. I made the mistake a couple of weeks ago of taking my wife to the dealership with me to trade in her 16 X5 for a 19 X5 and somehow left with an M850i convertible instead. Are there any other 850i owners on here?

I am still trying to figure out all the gizmos but WOW what a car. Yesterday I hit a button on the steering wheel and the car started driving itself. I let it drive for 4-5 miles but it gets a little freaky in the corners hoping it is going to turn but it always keeps it right between the lines. I have never owned a 500+hp car and it will pin you to the seat when you punch it! It has a G force meter on the dash which should tell you something.

Anyway I am looking forward to talking to others so I can learn more about my wife's new grocery getter.

Lol. That's an impressive grocery hauler. Plenty of room in the boot for all of that. Don't forget to use the hands free leg motion detector to open it. Anyway, welcome to the 8 series club.

Yes sir. I've had an 850 coupe since mid-December and have pretty much figured out all (ok, most) of the gizmos. (Mine also ended up in my garage as the result of an unrelated visit to a dealership.) If you have questions, fire away...

Hi
I'm picking up mine tomorrow in Munich. Have you coded the laser lights to the European mode (brighter, longer lights) plus any other coding? Thx

Congrats on the upcoming delivery!

Yes, my new coder, r33_RGSport, was able to remotely code my M850 to:
- Re-enable the European mode anti-dazzle laser brights.
- Default auto-stop-start to the off position.
- Eliminate the four-gong seat-belt alert.
- Code the key fob and in-vehicle trunk release buttons so they also work to close the trunk.
I highly recommend him and his services. You can reach him at: bchen@rgsport.com

Awesome thx. I'll connect with him. I'm sure I'll have more questions once I get the car back in the US.

Out of interest, what's your daily drive?

My wife recently bought an i3, and I really love driving it for shorter journeys, with my X6 M50d (F16) doing the regular long-haul across Europe. When I'm in the UK, I'm always trying to get behind the i3— it's a far better choice on our congested roads, and i love the 0-40mph acceleration. But, I suspect that that soon to be delivered M850i, replacing the X6 is going to change all that. Which car will be our favourite for UK roads. Can't wait to see.

So, I bring my new M850i coupe (purchased after I happened to see it during a service visit in December for my still newish 440i 'vert - a service/purchase phenomenon that admittedly tends to happen with some regularity) back to the dealer this morning for installation of the glass controls and I happen upon the brand new convertible version of my three-month-old car and - true story - I tell my long-term service advisor that I was looking over that new M850 convertible and he says, I swear to God: “I wasn’t supposed to let you go to that part of the building. The last time your wife was here, she told me not to let you go to the showroom, and she wasn’t smiling."

Question for "redhot".... how do you like the coding of the headlights? Any irritation for oncoming drivers, etc?

Hi. Absolutely no indications of oncoming irritation - haven't been flashed a single time. I'm betting that it also doesn't bother cars ahead of me, going in the same direction.

The system is remarkably well-engineered and programmed.

I took my wife to look at a Z4 M40i (I knew they had an M850i) she saw the M850i (just like I planned) and she literally fawned over it. What Z4?
