I8 Roadster lease ending thinking of M8 comp

My i8 roadster lease is ending and I wish I had another year on it as it is my favorite car. I am thinking of getting an m8 competition convertible and wrapping it in a frozen color maybe frozen silver.

For those who have the m8 competition how do you like it?

I had a I8 coupe a few years back. I just got my M8 Comp Coupe a few days ago. For me, it is awesome. But I am probably it's target niche market LOL.

I mostly just drive to play golf on all over the SF Bay Area on the weekends, run a few errands during the week, and drive by myself. It is all a mix of highway, streets, and some back roads.

I don't track and have owned everything from 997 TTS to AM V12 Vantage to 991 GT3 to MAC 570s. Light weight and tossable in corners not a big priority anymore.

I love car tech.

The M8 is perfect. Fast. Comfortable. Sporty. Has a trunk. Loaded with gadgets. Looks pretty great to me.

The leases are great now with all of the incentives.

Honestly, I have not enjoyed a car this much since my E92 M3 and 991 GT3. It is the fastest car I have owned and it drives really good for it's size. I crossed shopped it with a 992 CS and for my driving roads and style, handling was 95% there.

I had the i8 coupe also then got the roadster and fell in love with having a convertible and especially this one since it's Targa style with the wall behind the seats.

Before the roadster I test drove the m850 when it came out and found it felt too big for me as I was used to the much smaller i8 coupe at the time.

I love my M8 comp convertible. It's a great GT car. It's fast, the tech is good and Has a reasonable sized trunk.

I don't love the electronic gauges but have gotten used to them.

Perhaps not as exotic as the i8 but I get lots of complements about the car. More than the 911TT it replaced.

Love it. M8 would have been more than sufficient. Comp was unnecessary although I like the rims.

I do not possess an M8, but based on what I hear and read EVERYWHERE (not just here), I would be very surprised if there was anyone owner who regrets the M8 move! Around here especially, a very trustworthy and objective source, there has been nothing but praise for the M8 in any forms, specs and shapes. I guess the final step you need to make for yourself, if still not 100% convinced, is go and testdrive one. In general a testdrive is something that should not be omitted even if it's for just a few miles and minutes because that is going to give you the feeling right away of what you are actually driving. And in the case of the M8 that has got to be a great one!

Correct for me, too.

This is by far the best all-around car I've ever owned: RS models, AMGs, too many Ms to mention, Porsches, etc. The technology is top notch but it's the driving characteristics (for a GT), looks and then the mind-blowing performance that seal the deal. The car is staggeringly fast and can nail sub-11s quarter miles and sub-3s 0-60mph stock. This isn't some "meh" attempt at a super car (again, albeit a GT) from BMW, I'd argue they nailed it on all fronts.

Looks great! Is that frozen grey? you had it wrapped?

One thing I dont like about the 8's is the steering wheel. I like having the opening for my hand on the bottom.

It's frozen dark silver per BMW's nomenclature; not wrapped.

I'm interested in your steering wheel comment; would you elaborate, please.

I think he meant those steering wheels which have more of an opening in the lower dead center so you can put one hand and drive.

Ah, got it. Yeah, I missed that when moving out of my AMG but I got used to it quickly.

Def better than an i8. I had one but had 5 other cars (991 GT3, 991 Turbo S, 997.2 Turbo S, e92 M3, lifted Jeep) at the same time so after the novelty wore off I parked the i8 outside and forgot about it for 2 years and then turned it back in with low miles.

The M8 coupe is ok but not a great car. I prefer driving the 991 Turbo S and even the e92 M3 if I need more room. Basically the M8 is my choice if I want to drive slow and make a phone call.

I have an m8 convertible and it is my daily in winter and summer and it is very comfortable, fast enough for the street and luxurious (I only wish it had seat massage)
I am not sure how people can drive this car slow.
My car is always on M1 (sport plus engine and D3) even if i am driving for 5 min to the grocery store. This is why you buy an M car not an 840i

Highly recommend the M8 Competition Gran Coupe, I am in my 3rd week with mine (2021 Dravit Grey Metallic and Silverstone interior); it is a beautiful car. Only thing I miss from my M550i that I traded for it is the massaging seats. A lot quicker than the i8!

Don't rule the M850 out as a choice, dynos all stock at 600hp and wicked fast for ~$30k less

The M8 is a slug compared to my modded 991 Turbo S which does 0-60 in low 2's...mid 9 at 147 1/4 mile, 182 1/2 mile and will run up to the fuel cut in 7th gear at 236mph GPS. And yeah I drive it to the limit on the street sometimes when streets are empty.

So even if I push the M8 it feels slow to me. So I don't risk it. Not worth getting a ticket in a slow car like the M8.

All about perspectives gentlemen.

Yes agree if comparing to modded 911tts. Stock 911 tts already fast enough (To Me! Lol)

Do some modds to the M8 and then it is not slow anymore my friend. You cant compare apples to oranges.
Happy to see people drive their cars to the limit
Enjoy my friend

Indeed. I've no idea why this absurd comparison is made so frequently—they're not remotely similar cars and certainly not rivals.

My mod'd M8 ($900 mod I installed myself) hit 60 in 2.57s and the 1/4 mile in 10.33s on pump gas. It'll do that on the street, too. Properly mod'd S63TU engine variants are getting low 2s and mid-9s... that seems quite rapid for a car that can carry the entire family.

But yeah, applesineapples is an apt description of this flawed comparison.

Prop modded ones in mid 9's on street tires....Where? 147 1/4 mile and 182 1/2 mile...where? 236 top speed...where? And i'm not even the fastest stock frame turbo stock motor 991. Plenty of guys faster with 150+ 1/4 mile traps.

I have known quite a few M5's that have blown up. A few forum members. One that I am good friends with. In the mid to upper 130's 1/4 mile on e30 too high cyl pressure and boom. My friend whose M5 blew up ran low 10's before it blew. He also has a 991 with untouched stock turbos at 9.5@145mph. No issues. Gave up on the M5 after it blew. New motor and sold it. No potential.

I am currently working with a BMW software calibrator for a custom tune using Autotuner (a prof tuning platform) on the M8 at the moment. Keeping torque at factory stock levels until 4k rpm because of the rather fragility of this motor. Will be loading the tunes (pump and ethanol blend) on EMD's mustang dyno and working on it from there. Both top speed limiters also removed. Predicting some nice gains but nothing dramatic due to the main goal of reliability.

It is what it is. And more important it isn't what it isn't. Just a nice lux cruiser nothing more.
