Seems a bit weird as it is identical to the F90 M5 and is basically the same ZF8 sold by a whole heap of brands in a whole heap of cars.

There is a stop sale for the F90 M5 too, for the very same reason, the transmission wiring harness

As disappointing at it may be, this is most likely a supplier related problem. It will be fixed.

List of cars impacted (BMW document shared on the M5 forum) does not list the M850i. Appears an issue solely with the M5/M8 (and variants).

Just a point of reference...

I was at my dealer tonight on another matter and their 2 M8s for sale have already had the recall fixed and are good to go.

Salesman said the fix was quick and easy and "no big deal", FYI...

I understand about the sales people, in general, but are you disputing that these two M8s aren't fixed or that the fix isn't easy?

Please clarify...

he's probably saying that the problem is serious and not a quick fix. I think he says that it's kinda a big problem.

I just completed the recall for the backup camera and it took 6 hours. it's only a 1 hour fix, but everything takes longer.

From what I understand there is no fix available right now - ZF has not be able to come up with a solution but as long as cars are running, owners dont care so BMW is still skating by nicely!

Got it. Not really sure what to make of the salesman's comments if that is the case...probably not surprising!

Guess I should go say I want to buy it and see what he says!

Does anyone have any thoughts on how this might affect upcoming sales after the New Year? I imagine it might hurt sales, but to what degree?

Better lease rates? Price drops? The two at my local dealer appeared stagnant before this issue and obviously still haven't sold. The convertible looks like it hasn't moved since being unloaded from the truck.

I am looking at picking one up in the spring and hope this might work in my favor, though I feel badly for anyone on the other side of the issue...

BMW would eventually fix it and it sounds like its not dire so I doubt they will reduce price for this reason but then no one can be sure! If you wait around you will see some good discounts on these as we saw on the prior generation M6s.

Mine was produced end of October and it is fine. Will pick up in a week or so.

I saw an article in Motor1 stop sale until February? But have ppl actually taken delivery of the affected cars? Sounds like it just confirming if anyone actually got a car that's affected by recall

Recall fix is out. Transmission wiring harness was rubbing, which could eventually wear through. The fix is to re-route the harness if it has 6 miles or less. If more, they install a new harness in the new position. Just had all of the M5/M8's taken care of in my inventory.
