Current 911 thinking about switching to M8GC. Anyone daily?

Hey everyone. I currently have a 911 and I had a Panamera turbo SE hybrid previously. I love my 911 but with three kids, I do find myself preferring to drive my truck just for the practicality. So I’m thinking about trading it in on a M8 GC. Just wanted to get some feedback on an M8 GC, as a daily driver. I’m looking for something that has tons of personality, no matter how fast you are driving. My commute is pretty boring with 35 to 45 mph most the way. I considered an E 63, but sounds like Mercedes is having quite a bit of Quality control issues. I’m also considering a Panamera GTS/Turbo-s. Just wanted to get your thoughts. Thanks!!

I've owned mor 911's than I can hardly remember, but now that I'm a bit older (cough) I've been doing the GT cars for the last several years or so and never looked back. Full disclosure back in the day I also had 928's and liked them just as much. You really can't go wrong with the GC, as it should check all the boxes you've mentioned. I agree MB's QC is way down, have you seen the latest JDP short and long term #'s for them? Yikes!

No I haven’t! Thanks for commenting! Did you ever consider panamera turbo? Wondering how it compares to m8gc. Thanks

The PA doesn’t appeal to me, a four door trying to look like a 911 just isn’t right lol. I think the GC looks much better and more unique.

Don’t give up the 911. Give up the truck. The GC will meet the requirements you’ve stated.

Ha I wish but can’t give up the truck. Got to be able to tow. Anyone else conpare the m8gc with either the panamera or e63s? Thanks

I have both M8 GC and GT3. The M8 faster in a straight line. GT3 much more fun to drive overall. Taking into consideration the extra room in the back, I'd say that the M8 is 75% the fun of a GT3.

I feel that the m8 and 911 (have a GTS) are different tools for different jobs. Hard to compare for me at least.

E63 is an old bodystyle at this point.....that automatically would remove it from my list.

Panamera is also going to be old in a year.....although they don't really change those much from one generation to the next. I heard the tech sucks, though, and I need my tech at this price point.....

Wow I’m shocked how many Porsche owners in here. Would have totally thought more would go for panamera just due to general build quality, but I haven’t seen m8 in person so maybe I should try to find one.
Did you guys test drive a panamera turbo before going with m8? Just curious. I’m also looking at the cayenne turbo GT.

I have the 2023 M8 Comp GC with M Performance with custom x-pipe replacing the mid resonator and really enjoying it. I recommend driving one so you can get the feel of one. It drives and handles better than it looks.. I also highly would recommend getting a Sprint Booster for the accelerator pedal. I use it as my daily driver. Good luck in your quest.

Went to a Porsche dealership with our Orbit Baby car seat base and infant car seat. Neither the Taycan nor the Panamera fit the car seat.

How old are your kids? I had a 991.1 Carrera S and the back seats are good for ages 4-9 on short trips. There are some boosters that fit the back seats almost perfectly.

I have an 840 GC as an everyday driver and it would make a good family car.

But check out the trunk (‘boot’ in proper English) size before committing as it isn’t as cavernous as you might expect on a car of this size.

I cross shopped the Panamera Turbo. Like for like on specs, the Panamera is at least $40K more expensive than my M8 GC. The tech is worse and I absolutely hate the rear end look of it.

The Porsche obviously is a better overall drivers car (marginally for me) but the M8 GC is my preferred choice. It is special and the Panamera is NOT special.

I own the M850i GC which is close to what you are shopping for. I also have a very similar situation to yours: I came from a 911 and I can’t fit kids into the back of that car. I also have a similar boring commute as you do.

If you are replacing a 911 with the M8 you might get a tad bored. I have a dedicated sports/supercar already so that checks the box for me. Otherwise the M8 is the way to go. I would take that in a heartbeat over an E63 or any Panamera.

Sorry, but Porsche is not the way to go for luxury, electronics, or daily driveability. Their claim to fame is the 911 and motorsports. The M8 or M850i are great cars and very usable, and I also think they are way more beautiful than the E63 or Panamera.

But……if you can swing it, get a sports car on the side for fun weekend driving. Because the M8 will never replace a 911

Thanks! Not being a smart a** but what do you feel makes your M8GC “special”? Again…I am serious about this question ha. Not trying to be a jerk

Also, did anyone look at the cayenne turbo GT?

It looks special; to me, it is the best looking BMW in the current lineup and infinitely better looking than the Panamera.

It drives awesome; not as good as the Panamera in the steering department but drives nearly as good and sounds great without being obnoxious. Hides the weight well.

The tech is ahead of Porsche. I still cannot get over the fact the HUD is some magical option in the Porsche line up.

You have been beating this drum since last year; why don't you just go test drive the two cars?

Prior to buying my 23 M8CGC I test drive a few GT types and the runner up was the Panamera Turbo. Absent of the cache of owning/buying the Porsche brand, it wasn’t close IMHO. No regrets.

Ha good question. I actually bought a 911 last year and love it, but recently I just decided that I need the extra space. I had a panamera before so I’m pretty familiar with what it brings. But I only have one bmw dealer near me and I’ve never seen a M8GC there, and even if they did one…they act like every m car is touched by God and you can’t test drive one unless you put a deposit on it. So makes things difficult

Agreed. BMW has definitely been going in a different direction with their cars as of late. I was at a poker game last week and the guy I was sitting next to was talking about his Ferrari and 911 history. I told him I've been a long time BMW guy, but was on a wait list for a 911. I eventually said something along the lines of part of the thing pushing me to Porsche is that BMW is making ugly cars these days. He said, "ok, now that you said that first, yes they are." Apparently he didn't want to offend my BMWness. But then I sort of vindicated myself saying I had an M8 which he agreed didn't fit with the looks of the rest of the current line up. Obviously subjective, but the 8 is one of their last vestiges of attractive cars these days.

The industry exonerated Bangle by picking up most of his design cues minus the butt; you don't really see that happening with the new proboscis. Proboscis being the nicest word I could think of...
