BMW wouldn't service - Coded display

Hey all - brought my M850i to service at the dealer - in addition, had them check an issue that I was having with the emergency brake sensor. They wouldn’t work on the car because I had “aftermarket software coding” (Alpina display cluster). They claimed the only way they would is if they flashed the software, at a charge, to the original software.

I have never had such an issue from any car manufacturer and have coded my cars software for years.

After arguing with the dealer I told him that I would take the car home, flash it and return - he agreed of course but what a pain in the ass.

Just thought I would share.

Not surprised with these modern cars honestly.... The first thing they do no a days is to keep potential responsibility away from them. Meaning they won't risk anything if anything with the electronics or software indicates other than standard. I'm not saying I agree with it but its the way most are now... You are in a prime location for independent higher end shops, I'd start working with them.

Agree - I shouldn't be surprised either - they try to limit their liability. Just weird that it’s happening now after years of them not saying anything.

What a rubbish dealer… brought my G30 multiple times with Alpina display, never ever had an issue with any dealer in the UK

I've never heard of that. Maybe it's a new thing. My dealer actually set me up with the original coder. I used some years back before you could do it on your own with Bimmercode

Lauderdale Imports Pembroke Pines! I didnt complain unfortunately (other than laughing at the service associate) as without knowing BMW's official policy, I didnt want to push it.

I avoid anything that would negatively affect the warranty…why take a chance?
