I'm being serious you just said the new XM handles well?? I had one over the weekend dealer trying to sell an allocation they have. Keep in mind I came from X5MC. The X5 makes the XM feel like a mid 70's Cadillac at best. Don't get me wrong for its size it does well but as far as actually handling for say a canyon fun drive not around the parking lots it doesn't hold any candle. Heck even the M8 as good as it is, is no where near as fun as a new M2 for handling. I think many here are saying a true enthusiast someone that wants to get up go put that big smile across their face as they push tires to limits the sheer weight of electric cannot do it. It becomes a mass problem. Kinda like when people put super light weight wheel on the Tesla Plaid and they crack and bend due to the weight of the vehicle. Honestly we are getting to the point were electric vehicles should be requiring CDL to drive.... lol Ok RANT over.

What year was that M3 coupe? Just curious.

Both cars were 2019s.

Don't forget Tesla has barely been building cars, BMW is king of building sports sedans.
Batteries under the floorboard give their cars a much lower center of gravity that mass-production ICE vehicles can only dream about.

But back to my original question, hope there is a coupe M5/M7

The IX is an absolute sales flop at my local dealership. It doesn't matter if it's an IX 40 or IX 50, nobody is buying them.

X5 40i still sell like hotcakes.

A corner here and there, sure. You can't put it through its paces for an extended period, the weight will melt the Tires. I have done it lol.

So it should be more then enough for most of us
I am just hoping they make the drivetrain smoother then the XM because the XM was not smooth

I had an I4 as a loaner when I got new tires, all maintenance due, full inspection, etc. Last December. Not bad but once again not my cup of tea. The X5 40i selling well makes sense as the EV/hybrid SUV market is at least in my opinion on the low end of the maturity curve. However, a SUV of any make that's ICE is the breadwinner in the market at least here in the US.

SUVs in general rule the market here and that's why even sedans (3 and 5 series sell less than a X any day of the week). Kudos to BMW if they can pull off an EV version aka ithe IX 40 or 50. They key being even beyond our ICE loving brethren here on the forum most are not still sold on a full EV.

That comes down to several factors including building out what it takes to charge properly at home as well as the range. I laugh every time I go to my local UPS store to drop off an Amazon return as in the parking lot is a bank of Tesla chargers. As I pass them by with several cars (and drivers in them) I just laugh as I can hit the local Costco and fill up in 10 minutes or less (just depends on the lines to the pump but German being on the right hand side vs left makes it easy).

It's all mostly speculation at this point. The only people that know for sure what's coming are the BMW folks. But it sounds like it might continue in just the GC form.

Agreed and that includes statements coming out of BMW (although not conclusive on the varients but GC has been called out). One doesn't need a crystal ball to know or understand large coupes/verts are nearly a dead market here in the US. Designing the next 8-series including coupes/verts and the investment into the manufacturing line at least to me dictates GC only. Even sedans sell less than SUVs but a GC falls into a category of sustainable profit margins if they price it right. 👍

Yes indeed. Its sad for us coupe buyers that they are going away in general. I don't really have a desire to get another M4 in the current form so I'm hoping that whatever they come out with as this alleged new 6 comes in a coupe so I don't have to start looking at Cayman's and 911's as I still don't think Porsche has the whole package as a DD as well as BMW does. And, my garage is already decorated with BMW stuff. C'mon BMW, don't make me have to re-decorate!

Had to drop off an Amazon return and here was the lineup on the chargers with several in the row behind waiting their turn. Laughed as usual as I drove by in my Tanzanite Blue M850i (makes them all look pedestrian) burbling and gurgling.

Convertibles are just so damn fun!

I used to hate convertibles because I thought they were too small (S2000, Miata) or they just looked ugly. But then I got hooked when I first got a 2020 Z4 M40i. I really should have stopped there, but bad decisions lead me to where I am now with an M850i convertible.

For me, it is immensely relaxing to drive on a quiet service road in the evening, night or early morning with the top down and cooler air surrounding me. And with my anxiety, I need the escape.

I honestly cannot imagine the 8 series dash with the ID8 widescreen, no crystal shifter (as it is now) and barely any buttons. I keep thinking the uglier the new models get, the more in demand the older ones will be.

Tesla cars are hideous. The drive train is good, the rest of it sucks, fish lip front end, yoga studio interior.

I believe the X5 is the best selling BMW in the US.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don't find them hideous, infact they are unique and that's a part of their appeal. Kinda like how unique Porsches look (and there too, many find them equally hideous).
They are great cars, I've owned a few of them. Despite their build quality issues, they seem to hold up better than any BMW I've owned (albeit over a 5 year span as my only metric for comparison).
So they work great for the people who like them

If a tesla was 1/3 the price I wouldn't be interested. From a car guys standpoint they are nothing but over powered golf carts. Style-less pigs too. They have zero sex appeal or even good looks. I can't use my usual descriptive term here for them out of kindness to a certain group in our society....lol
Whenever I see one I laugh and mock......so bad

I'd take a Tesla roadster, except for the fact that they don't exist yet and they cost $250,000

And may never exist at all as Elon has a way of driving (pun intended) hype via vaporware as we call it in my IT world.
