For those M8 owners who have tuned your vehicles, we all know that during & after that process, we lose our remote start feature. Has anyone been able to resolve this? I tune + modify all my vehicles, it just really blows that we lose this feature. Any thoughts?

Agreed as the remote start is the Connected App -> Cloud -> Car (aka iDrive 7 on the grid with all privacy allowed needed for the remote start feature) which seems outside of the boundaries of a tune.

i just stumbled on the remote start feature at the gym yesterday. wasn’t even aware it had it.

what is the specific process to activate the remote start. i accidentally pushed some buttons too many times and the car started. not sure what i did

Interesting and learn something all the time on this forum. However, if I remote start it is because I want to cool the car down via A/C way before I ever get close enough to it for the key fob option and hence use the Connected app. Also this means I have to take the fob out of my pocket and slide the case holder to expose the buttons. All of which negates the value of comfort access.

Agreed as it is CYA. However, I've found that interesting as on my Android Pixel 3XL the Connected App labels it as "Climatize Now" or "Departure Climate Timer" to schedule the event. This is in contrast to my work iPhone 10s with the latest Connected App as it labels the same events as "Start Engine Now" or "Schedule Remote Engine Start". Apparently the app developers for both mobile platforms did not get the same legal memo.

I have talked to many M8 owners on Instagram who have added a tune to their vehicles and all of them have lost their Remote Start feature

I am running a Eurocharged Tune in Toronto, Canada

I am really not sure, but something occurs when a tune is added and all of the tuned M8 owners that I have spoke with on Instagram have lost their remote start, including myself

Who is Jerry?

Literally everyone I have talked to with tuned M8’s and some with tuned M5’s have lost this function (with remote, display key, connected App etc)

Jerry is the founder and main tech for Eurocharged. Don't faff around with crowd-sourced opinion—go to the source.

My M8 is tuned—remote start works fine. There are other options (mine's a piggyback so ignore my facetious dig).

That said, I still fail to see any correlation between tweaking engine parameters and remote start... however, I don't doubt what you're saying either. Keep digging...

PS: neither of my F90 M5s has remote start.

Yes the OBD2 ECU tune will remove the remote start.
The only way to avoid it is to bench the dme units. But you have to be running the old software.

Any Bmw running the 07.2020. Software can't use remote start or any features locked with a modified tune.

If you have an older M850i running 2019 software; you can still use remote start with a tune.

You're m8 is probably running the old software. I bet you're version isn't the same as his.
Also I think you're talking about a jb4 or GTS chip; and I think he's talking about a true ECU software tune.

You seem very certain as to the root cause, may I ask how you know?
