CPO? You mean CP NO. CPO used to mean something. It's pretty useless these days. BMW is not interested in you keeping cars long-term. It's only interested in you leasing a new one every 3 or 4-years.

CPO Expiration is 5 years from in service date or 999,999 (total) miles... 1 year from date of new car warranty end, irrespective of miles on that date. If the car hits 50k miles sooner than 4 years then, CPO kicks in sooner. End date does NOT change. Bottom line, this recent change to the program is worse for low mileage drivers because you lose a year of coverage but, is WAY better for high mileage drivers. CPO enrollment for 6 yr/unlimited mileage exists but, it is NOT cheap and it’s not done unless directed that way by the used car manager before the start of the CPO process.

As noted previously, BMW will allow you to PURCHASE a 2 year CPO that will extend your coverage 24 additional months if you hit the 50,000 mile threshold prior to 48 months of the car being placed in service.

What you are talking about is called BMW Extended Vehicle Protection and you can purchase Platinum or Gold coverage for 1, 2 or 3 years additional as long as you are still within the original new car warranty period.

FYI, we have a 2016 750Li xDrive with 50,010 miles in inventory. New car warranty is expired and yet the CPO warranty coverage that is printed from DCS says that it expires 4/30/2021 (which is 5 years from its in service date).

Which dealership did you confirm this with? I went round and round on this with the sales manager at Niello (in your locale) at the beginning of this year (my friend was buying an X5M CPO with ~4500mi from them) and it was exactly as Robotechnology stated.

Here's what the sales manager said in the last confirmation:

Originally, I thought it was as you stated (where upon expiration of the original warranty by either mileage or date, the CPO warranty only kicks in for 1yr after that), but every time I presented my worksheet of warranty expiration to the sales manager he stated and wrote down that the CPO warranty expires 5yrs from the in service date, and goes into effect after the original 4/50k warranty expires. He was very consistent in this. So, if you hit 50k in your first year, and there are 3 years left till the "5 years after in service date" is reached, then the CPO warranty would cover you for those 3 years/unlimited miles.

I also reached out to my friend at BMW Fremont and after explaining my confusion to him he also verified what Niello said.

Where you are confusing things is on a car that has not reached 50,000 miles or 4 years. In that case, it would be added on for 12 months AFTER factory Warranty expires.

We are talking cars over 50,000 miles

FWIW, I ended up purchasing the vehicle.
I asked both the sales manager AND the finance person (separately) about the CPO Warranty and is what Robotechnology said. I was given a Warranty Inquiry sheet of sorts and it showed CPO warranty ends 5 years after the In service date, 99,999 miles.

The extra year was an extension of the 4 year / 50,000 miles "New Car Warranty", which the same caveats and exclusions that warranty had.

I said sorta because i forgot what the official name of that warranty inquiry form was.

But on that form it showed all the warranties associated with that vehicle, which its expiration mileage and date.

On that F30 thread ( i read before ) I believe is regarding transferring the CPO warranty to a new owner ( previous owner bought it as CPO, sold it / traded it back to dealer). For the CPO warranty to transfer, a fee has to be paid.

Interesting as one would think a Used Car Manager would know there was no 750Li in 2016. They were all one wheelbase and 750i in USA.

Now, let’s examine the rest of your post and what you left out in full disclosure to the forum and @dang

You took the car in question with 49,900 miles. You then Certified the car with 49,940 miles, just INSIDE the New Car Warranty.

The car has been driven 70 miles and is now OVER the 50,000 Original Warranty at 50,010 miles.

HOWEVER, the CPO goes off the miles WHEN THE CAR WAS CERTIFIED as a CPO.

As the car was Certified 60 miles under the wire, yes DCS shows the expiration of 4/30/2021.

If you had waited 60 miles to certify, the car would only be Certified for 12 months.

Thus (to my surprise) when a car with less than 50,000 miles and less than 4 years old sold as a CPO could extend the EW (CPO) to 5 years unlimited, but the car MUST BE CERTIFIED prior to reaching the 50,000 mile/4 year mark, else it can only be certified for 12 months. Of course that contradicts the 2 contradictory web pages, but whatever.

As thus, your post was misleading as it lead @DanG and others to believe a car with 50,000 miles+ could extend their EW for 3 years and unlimited miles, which is false.

And I will admit I learned more today than I wanted to know.

That’s good news for the OP.

However OP, make sure you read the Buyers Guide very carefully prior to signing the contract and make sure everything is as it should be according to dates.

Guys I don't why this topic always causes so much confusion. READING IS FUNDAMENTAL. CPO starts when your 4yr 50,000 miles warranty ends. Now that "NEW CAR WARRANTY" can end 2 ways. At 4yrs after the in service date OR 50,000 miles after the in service date. WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. NOW, when that time comes, YOUR CPO STARTS for 1 year and unlimited miles.(Used to be 2 years and up to 100,000miles whichever came first) CPO warranty is LIMITED vs the NEW CAR WARRANTY. It really isn't that hard to understand. SMH

Reading is fundamental. Unfortunately BMW has contradicting info on their website.

The CURRENT CPO (changed last year) actually extend the EW out to 60 months (5 Years).

The CPO can run over 12 months IF THE CAR IS CERTIFIED (Inspected) prior to the expiration of the 4 Year/50,000 mike Warranty. See the above for sliding under the wire.

I say currently as there is thought that this was not what BMW intended, but just as people look for loopholes once tax law is passed, this appears to be a loophole found in the new CPO policy.

As you stated, The original warranty can expire early if 50,000 miles are reached prior to the 48th month. However, the CPO will kick in then through the 60th month (if car was CPO’d prior to 50,000 miles), However, unlike you stated (as I did originally)the CPO currently can last several years, depending on when the car hits 50,000 miles.

You can SMH all you want, but BMW has contradictory info currently on their website and getting the correct answer with all the correct details isn’t easy sailing.....as I witnessed first hand. There are gotchas all along the way.
I totally understand what you are saying. I just think when people read things they get caught up with the "advertising language" that BMW added to make the CPO look more enticing.. People see the "4Years" But they miss the "50,000 miles" part.

I pasted the statement from the BMW website. The line that confuses people is "for a total of 5 years" The bottom line is once the 4 yr New is over, you get 1 year of CPO coverage.
