B8 is a luxury car not a sport car like M-Car and thats the main concept of Alpina car!
The car was at Goodwood because Alpina took it there. It's not just "someone", it's the manufacturer, or at least the U.K. distributor.

If you Google "Goodwood Festival of Speed" you will understand what the event is all about. Hell you might even go there!

Thank God they were safe and no one was harmed. That's all that matters!

Maybe it's the engineers and product planners that hit a "wall". The Germans keep one upping each other with bigger, heavier, and more powerful super sedans that cannot, in fact, defeat physics.

Got to laugh at the thought this car was being driven by a middle aged, overweight, Rolex wearing, accountant done well, with an Armani sweater tied round his shoulders, with something to prove.

No, this was a factory performance driver, probably an active racing car driver for some BMW series. Admittedly the nature of the track, and the unfamiliarity of the car are factors. But this is no run out of talent 'cars and coffee' episode.

But anyways, this mishap probably brought much more publicity than a clean run

Thanks, that's really interesting to me. I would have figured that a big bale of hay that size would weigh maybe 50 lbs each. They don't appear that heavy. I've seen pictures of men picking hay bales up and putting them on their shoulders.

Watching the impact in slow motion, the hood and front right vehicle corner have some significant deformation, so yeah, they're not that light.

Learning something new.

It's a touring car driven on a track with tight turns is it an M? That's 1 mistake and the announcer said it was driven in comfort that's mistake number two. A car like that might be totaled with the air bags going off.

Incredible ignorance of the Goodwood event shown on this thread, they have some the best cars and best drivers in the world there, legends drivers and cars from F1/Nascar/world rally/pikes pike/Le mans/indi cars everything.

Here was yesterdays qualifying for the hill climb event:

Just saw this run.
Can you imagine full out in one of these!
In a 100 years they'll probably say the same about the cars today.

The amount of people who have no clue about FOS is sad. One of the coolest events to watch.

To answer your question: you go for a race in an alpina b8 because you're the damn company trying to showcase it. It's like going to an auto show that doesn't suck because they don't just post 0-60 and hp on a window sticker. You get to hear the car, see the car, and watch it rip down the "track", which is also a Duke's driveway.

And constructor showcase is only like 5% of this event anyways. If you haven't heard or goodwood you need to do yourself a favor (seriously, they are fantastic) and YouTube the shootouts of previous years.

Oh & stop comparing this event to some track day your ignorance is appalling.
This is a major international event that is broadcast live worldwide over several days where leading manufacturers & private owners celebrate some of the greatest performance cars & most famous race cars ever built.
It's kind of like the ultimate interactive motor show & fans travel from all over the world to be a part of it (at least they did before COVID).
So what you're saying is that this is an international version of Cars-n-Coffee?

Well, no one will mistake your post for an honest attempt to educate and pass on knowledge to others who don’t possess it, for whatever reason.

As to your generalizations about the US, well, that speaks volumes in itself.

I feel like I should not have to explain, but people mainly watch events that are marketed smartly, distributed appropriately and easily available. None of which applies to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the US. I’ve personally only learned about it because I subscribe to the EVO magazine and it gets a lot of coverage there, but for those who don’t read non-US media, I easily understand why it can seem like an obscure semi-exotic event. That’s because it has no visibility in the US, and forum members here are certainly not to blame.

You didn't get my point bro .
The point is no matter how a car is well engineered, it's against the physics law to drive a 200 inche / 4800 lb car at that speed into that short turn and if FOS is the place that cars have to show how well they can be driven and pass those turns , this is not the right car for that place no matter who (person or company) has decided to take it and if this is the company so even worse since they have over estimated their cars. If the car was 911 or E9x/F8x M3/M4 then was easily able to handle but B8 is over 15" longer and over 1200 lb heavier that those cars! Oh Man this is 5 meter / 2200 kg car

Believe me I had/have lots of high performance cars (M3/M4/M6/M8) drove some of them on race tracks and especially with experience of my F13/M6 and F92/M8 am so familiar with this platform/suspension/engine which is very similar to B8.

Let me leave this video here when Randy Pobst drove M6 over Laguna Seca back in 2013 and said "Driving the M6 is kind of alot of work"
And FYR, M6 is 8" shorter and 600 lb higher than B8

Someone or manufacturer doesnt make any difference. B8 is a missile highway cruiser and must be shown in showroom not FOS or any kind of race track with some short turn which is as wide as length of this car…. However this is just IMO … and the result is what you see

This was certainly a rookie driver that needs to go back to school. To overcook a corner that early on in this run is pretty sad. He was pushing that car a touch too hard right off that bat & trying to impress the crowd. But instead he felt embarrassed...
