tune
has anyone done the Dinan stage 1 tune to their m850i ? numbers look great, but I'd like some one to tell me if it works before I pull the trigger.

I'm going DME also...GREAT service by these guys, awesome gains.
As far as Carbahn, their tune looks great but trying to deal these guys made me choose another tuner. I emailed the Carbahn BMW installer in IL asking what the process is, as I live about 5 hours away. He responded with "we need the last 5 of your VIN to see if it can be done thru the OBD or sent to Carbahn". I replied with the VIN March 4 and still no response. I then on March 9 I made contact with the GM Chris at Carbahn asking if my VIN was compatible with an OBD flash or if I could send him the DME directly. His response was "it can be done at one of our dealers or you can send us the DME". I followed up asking the process in getting him the DME, turn around time, etc. No response. I am willing to drive 5 hours and spend $2500, you would think they would be a little more responsive. So now I'm using DME Tuning, they do remote tuning thru the OBD port. Claiming 100+hp/tq. |

My sarcasm aside: quoting power numbers without supporting data is a bit empty. Do you have any resulting performance numbers say from a Dragy or the like? Is the 729 wheel HP or crank? Whose dyno? What fuel? I know, I know... it's like the Spanish inquisition but it's the only way to extract anything meaningful. For example: my 2019 M5 put down 720hp to all 4-wheels and 740 ft Ibs of torque which ran 0-60 in 2.77s and the 1/4 mile in 10.6 if memory serves. I then got a 2020 M5 Comp which was a fair bit faster and, on pump gas that's very similar to your own, she ran 0-60 in 2.57s and the 1/4 mile in 10.33s on a farm road. I'd extrapolate the 2020 M5 was making 750ish hp to the wheels and a little more torque which is very roughly 850 crank hp using a conservative 12-13% drivetrain loss. The dyno was a Mustang all-wheel dyno. |

I saw it on their website but I personally called Marlon @ DME Tuning Texas. He's there main guy that does the remote tuning.

I did Carbahn (Steve Dinan's current company) Stage 1, which gives you ~750 bhp @ 91 octane, 774 bhp @ 93 octane and ~800 bhp @ 96 octane. The difference is huge, I can recommend it.
Also change the air filter to a low resistance one. |

My 2020 M5 Competition hit 60 repeatedly in 2.57s and ran the 1/4 mile on a farm road with pump gas in 10.3s. We all love the big power figures (me included) but there are scam artists out there now making bold claims (think lying) about their power gains (I'm not referring to Steve Dinan in any guise here) hence these now easily-attainable real-world performance numbers provide us with a common frame of reference which helps everyone get the best bang for their buck. |

In terms of a drag strip, I was meant to be doing a speed-run on 21st April, but the event has been called off due to Covid-19. In terms of fuel, it was running 95 RON, so the 'cheap stuff' we get in the UK - with 99 RON it will likely be far more. M |

Totally understand on the speed-run. I'm British and understand your petrol predicament. Mine is only a little better here in WA where I get 92 US which translates to ~96 RON. I look forward to the speed runs--you're gonna be impressed beyond belief I suspect. |
