California/areas that require front plates

For those not using them, are you guys getting hassled by LE?

No---- the front plate law where I live is rarely enforced as the first offense. Meaning, I may get a front plate ticket but thats a derivative of something more grand like speeding or some other moving violation.

There are so many nice cars here in CA and especially the OC where there are no front plates and the ticketing is rare or it is for me, my friends and my family.

Now in the LA area if a parking lot is public or the car is on a public street, the meter police can and will tag your car for no front plate.

While the front plate ticket is almost always the fruit of a more poisonous tree; one can still get ticketed for it here in CA as the only infraction.

Bout the same in the Seattle area, get pulled over for something else you may get ticketed for the front plate, it's more likely if you get lippy. I've never been pulled for a front plate, but I've had em cite it on an unrelated stop.

If you do get cited here, it's a fix-it ticket. You go and show them a plate, they sign off on it, and then take it off a block away. I actually duct taped one on a Corvette once. Not kidding; you attach the plate to the plate holder, pull off a couple strips of duct tape and attach that to itself so it becomes two sided, after the officer inspects you just pull it off; holes avoided.

No paint damage with that?

No, shouldn't pull any paint because it's just on there a few minutes. You put the plate on at the station, go get em, let em have a look, pull it off when you're done. It's not road worthy, just enough to pass a visual and off you go.

Luckily, I haven't got ticketed for tint or no front plate in several years. When I was younger it was every few months.

Is it a ticket that involves points, especially if issued by the local meter maid?

No, no points as its a non moving violation here in CA.

Almost always its a check box (fix it ticket) but honestly Id rather just pay the extra 75 bucks or whatever (there is a fix it fee too) and not have to go to the CHP or Sheriff's office to get it signed.

I havent had a front plate ticket in 5 years and that was due to speeding where the officer hit me with both but the speeding was the primary.

No issues here too.
I think the LE pay cut does work in this case.

You can always just try your luck and see what happens; it shouldn't be a points issue and normally doesn't even come with a fine.

Garage List
Our son lives in the San Diego area and when I gave him my outgoing Lexus we just changed the rear plate at an outsourced DMV service center (after proving smog control passing) and I looked into front plate option mounts. Never did the front plate and 4 years later no hassle whatsoever. Plus prior to that he had my wife's outgoing Escape after I bought her the 2017 X5. Add that into the mix and 7+ years with no hassle.

Here in Texas, not having a front plate and mass murder are the same crime. I've been pulled over a number of times when I had my temp tags without a front tag.

I have the plate mount that bolts into the tow hook spot in the front bumper. It's just not worth the hassle.

No front plate in Ontario means dry rape in the ditch immediately.

I never put them on my cars but out here in LA,
its an invitation to get pulled over. I have gotten
many tickets in front of my house at 2 am just
for no front plates. They really have nothing
better to do than to write a 25$ citation!

I've been driving without a front license plate in Texas (north Dallas area) for 14 years now and never gotten a ticket or even pulled over for it.

I have gotten a bunch of speeding tickets in that time.

I wonder if it's maybe the car. I had a red Jaguar F-type for a number of years. I got pulled over just for sitting still in that thing. I'll just play by the rules until I give them a better reason to pull me over.
