Oh, I did not know that. Thanks for explaining.
Absolutely ‼️
I enjoy the drag races I have to admit.

The GTR didn't participate in this one as far as I'm concerned so perhaps one qualifying criterion should be, "we're going to launch it hard and repeatedly against something it might lose to... OK?"
The owner said NO.

He was nice to give his car.

He has zero launches recorded.

I can understand why he restricted them.
I can't. What's the car for if not for driving harder than a regular family sedan—that's subjective, though, and his choice.

What I'm saying is Matt should simply qualify that upfront. If it's a "no", then no thanks.

The reality is this: what is the point of a drag race if you don't give the cars participating their best chance of winning. The GTR was an ornament so shouldn't have been included.
There's hard and then there's HARD. I can see the owner's point. Probably wanted to see it compared at some level, just not the level that was needed. ///M TOWN is right, he was gracious enough to loan the car in the first place. Insurance or not, I'm sure there's some nervousness involved.
Correct... And now they don't have to buy him clutches like they have to replace his rear brakes.

Because somehow a rock got caught in there, and did damage.

You are talking about the car like it's an antique table.

If he didn't want to do a proper launch why bring the car to a drag race. Sounds more he was set for Cars and Coffee...

Can't believe it's the only GT R in the UK. There must have been someone else in that country with a later model willing to actually run the car...

They should have clearly gotten another GT-R to run.
Now we're on the same page.

Well, that was short-lived: back to not remotely on the same page--how did Matt suddenly become an animal? Based on what? You surely can't be saying that "launching" a car == animal... the bloody manufacturer built the capability into the car.

Yeah too bad that's not what BMWs were ever supposed to be about.

They were about handling and balance. Steering feel and enthusiasm.

Now that they aren't able to do any of that—-they just make fast 0-60 and 0-120 cars. What a shame...

I haven't driven some of the smaller M-bimmers in quite a while but aren't they still considered the driver's choice?

I get what you're saying about the larger models but the market changed. An E60 M5 was once a race mule most at home on a track--less so on the road by miles (figuratively and literally speaking)--but the 5-series evolved and the M5 was brought along for the ride. I'd argue that's what the market demanded but I'm only one (and one very-possibly biased) voice.

That said--an M8 like mine will see the track (road course)... and the dragstrip... but it lives on the street/freeway. I think that's a massive consideration in developing these cars to compete on the world stage.

My understanding is the M8C handles extremely well.
