Yeah too bad that's not what BMWs were ever supposed to be about.

They were about handling and balance. Steering feel and enthusiasm.

Now that they aren't able to do any of that—-they just make fast 0-60 and 0-120 cars. What a shame...

I haven't driven some of the smaller M-bimmers in quite a while but aren't they still considered the driver's choice?

I get what you're saying about the larger models but the market changed. An E60 M5 was once a race mule most at home on a track--less so on the road by miles (figuratively and literally speaking)--but the 5-series evolved and the M5 was brought along for the ride. I'd argue that's what the market demanded but I'm only one (and one very-possibly biased) voice.

That said--an M8 like mine will see the track (road course)... and the dragstrip... but it lives on the street/freeway. I think that's a massive consideration in developing these cars to compete on the world stage.
