First BMW...

Hello,

Just got a 2023 M8 GC, haven't had a BMW in about a decade so I would like to think it's my first BMW all over again.

So far, just got the chemical guys cleaning kit for hand washing. Next up is tint.

Still haven't hit the break-in period yet, so taking it easy.. but any suggestions from experienced owners, tips/tricks/warnings, I would greatly appreciate it.

I second this if you're particular about your car and get annoyed as your front end gets sand blasted. PPF will definitely preserve the new car look for longer.

My first tip is to enjoy your new car.

Install the my BMW app and connect to your car.

In your iDrive settings do a remote software upgrade check as your 2023 may be behind. As of today you should have 11/2022.60 installed.

Get Bimmercode or Bimmergeeks Protool app, a wifi or Ethernet based OBD2 adapter and customize your car to unlock some additional features (called coding). Bimmercode is far easier to use but it's far more restrictive (and safer). However since Protool is more capable, read and learn first so you don't mess up your car. There's plenty of learning options on this forum.

For tint I highly suggest finding a shop that does computer cutting of the film. These shops won't bring a razor blade anywhere near your car to potentially cut rubber, scratch glass, or worse. For tint I suggest XPEL Prime XR+. If you don't want to spend the $ on it you can save $100-200 by using Suntek CXP or CIR. There's other good films just do your research. I'd also suggest 70 or 80% on the windshield to protect your leather dash. Note if your night vision is already not good, either do 80% or skip the windshield.

Again, enjoy your car.

My take on PPF is a time and cost issue. While yes I'd love to have it, it would cost $2-5k depending on how much of the car I did (just the front vs the whole car.) I usually own cars for 3ish years so for that short of a time for me PPF isn't worth the cost. Now if I was going to have the car for 10y it would be a different story.

If you haven’t already, from connect drive , subscribe to the speed camera alert app ($25 per year I believe in the us)
In idrive , set up route warnings to appear in the hud ( made assumption you have one?)
Worthwhile and could save you it’s money spent!

PPF is a must. Especially with a black car.
Put ceramic coated stealth PPF on white car and clear on all of the CF. Best money I ever spent. Clean up is a waterless wash in 10 minutes.

I don't bother with PPF or ceramic coating either. I can barely keep a car a year lol.

Highly recommend STEK PPF, and XPEL ceramic window tint. It is worth every $ imo.
