I have the exact spec above in my m850i. It is an amazing car and it makes my smile every time I get into the drivers seat and start the engine.

Given the dollars involved, its a big decision and an emotional decision. So go with the car that is going to make you smile.

I don't get all the M5 favoritism. They both have slushbox trannies with boring cheap plastic paddle shifters. M850i is comfortably nimbler with shorter wheelbase vs M5, styled better and feels more exclusive so I would vote in favor of M850i.

It just shows how far M division has fallen in its failure to offer exclusive M driving experience. M5 with its button gimmicks try too hard to be something that it is not. M850i would be perfect if they removed the stupid striped emblem in front of the number.

This thread is basically a battle of which is worse...

* coupe vs sedan not an issue/primary concern

Similar price points. One is the true M with more power/performance. One is higher on the luxury scale with slightly less performance.

Just interested in thoughts/opinions if presented with this decision. Colors/Trim/interior being variable in the same cost points.
Given that you said that coupe vs sedan is not a primary concern means that you will not need that extra space and comfort in the rear seats that the M5 has. So based on looks only, +1 to M850i. The 8S have looks of a supercar. I personally don't like how the G30 look, both the front and the rear and even on the side but especially the rear with those rearlights that seem to have no definition on them until it is dark and they light (something I expect they will fix at LCI time). In certain angles or views, the car looks like plain or like an Asian car or copy during the day.

The question you have to ask yourself is: do you really need the extra performance the M5 provides? If not, then no point to the M5. Why would you need that extra performance? Is it for fun only, like driving on the motorway or maybe a bit more like weekend tracks? Or is it just for the badge like showing to others that are more into car performance that you have an M5CS. If you think that extra performance overrides anything you do not like in the M5 when compared to the 8S, then, you can either take it or wait for the M5 LCI, else I think the M850i is the one to go for.

Briefly, for the looks, M850i; for performance and practicability, M5CS, but on overall, in my opinion, the M850i wins, and take into consideration that an LCI for the 5 series is relatively near. Also, like someone indicated, you need to drive both and compare by yourself; this will help you into choosing which one to get.

Yes. F90 M5 (non comp) and M850i.

I was more impressed with the 8, and it feels like such a missed opportunity that M8 doesn’t have dedicated hardware components to be in the realm of a supercar.

M5C for me . more practical for every day better handling and it doesn't look bad. m850 is more stylish. now if it was m8c or GC then i might spring for the 8er. M8C GC pushing 200k

Closest car to a super car in that price range is a 911TT

LCI F90 info seems limited to date.

- 8 series tech?
- 8 series interior?
- color additions?

I'd lighten the options and get Standard M8 all day. Looks more the business and special.

What you guys think about M850i GRAN COUPÉ vs M5C?

The GC Is more practical than the Coupé, I would say almost like the M5C. So for me there only one advantage for the M5C and that is the Performance ..

My advice:
Never buy new m8. Wait about 2 years, you probably can snatch a low mile M8 GC CPO for less than 80k in less than 2 years.

Same thing is happening to M6GC, and I had one of those.

Meanwhile enjoy the M5!

Lived the same decision and went with the M850i (2020 on order to my desired options) given the aesthetics pointed out in the thread and it provides all the performance I need. Can't justify the cost of a M8 or M8C for my non-track needs on a depreciating lack of asset.
