This 8 says 54.6 and the M5 is 55.9.
But with kid seats what matters is the distance between the outer latch points.
Haaaa I just saw the picture on carwow of the car and the back seats, no way is that a 3 across sitting or even kid friendly in any way. The simple fact they can reach the center console with their feet is a no go.... The controls on the rear console would be destroyed in a couple of weeks. Also the length of those back doors would be problematic in a parking lot.

The car is beautiful, but if you want a 4 door, you probably want some level of practicality. I guess I'm just not understanding the target market for this...

Respectfully, if putting 3 people on a consistent basis in the backseat is a requirement, then just get an M5 (or M550, etc.) instead. Anyone getting an 8GC is doing so with the understanding that the rear seat is 2+1. There's less headroom in the 8GC vs the 5-Series, as well. If the 8GC layout doesn't fit the needs of some people that's ok, in fact it's the point - there are other models that do. If every car was built identically, there'd be no reason to get one over another.

My bulldog would fit perfectly fine in the backseat. Yes, that is one of the requirements I look for in a car.

So I suppose people like us are the target audience mainly. Single or married couple without kids, that likes to take road trips.

Hence why my F90 has 20,260 miles on it in just 10 months (and it's not my daily driver).

There is an M8 GC coming out just like there was an M6 GC. The M5 is a sedan and wears the ///M badge so BMW is no stranger to ///M Sedans that aren't small. Even the current ///M3 is quite large relatively speaking. If you've ever driven an M5, M3, M6 GC etc then you would know they handle very well for all being sedans. I've only drive then M3/5, never the 6, but BMW knows how to make SUV's feel like sedans and sedans feel like coupes.
Agreed.

I was thinking if you needed to have 3 in the back and the smallest person was a pretty girl wearing a short skirt that perhaps it wouldn't be that bad of a thing if you're in the front and need to show the back seat passengers how to adjust the aircon.

I had own F13 M6, F82 M4 and now F80 M3. Also have driven F10 M5 and Im telling you even F13 M6 (Coupe) which is around 20 cm shorter than M8GC is not agile anywhere close to M3....

I never said it would be, after all this is a sedan. Proper suspension tuning can go a long way so let's see how it turns out. I'd love to see an Alpina version of the new 8 GC

If Alpina did they'd need to put the N74 in it and call it a B12 imho.

If you really believe what you are saying, then you should check the specs and dimensions. The difference is minimal and nowhere near the usual increases.

It is minimal but still wider If you go to a configurator and load up a normal 8 and go to a 3/4 view and flick between another window with an M8 in the same colour you'll see quite a big difference.

The target market is me. Married family with one kid.

Thanks Liam, good to see you around again btw!

I'm guessing then that on an M850i the rear guards are the widest point, whereas on the M8 they are just slightly wider than the rear guards?

Hey. I am very interested in the 8. Have no real need for a big back seat. Can someone tell me what the biggest difference between the 850 series and the 750? What is the main advantage of one over the other?
