BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe thoughts (and vs M5)

Had the chance to drive the M8 comp gran coupe and compare it with an M5 Comp back to back. Some initial thoughts.

The M8 GC feels heavier, longer and wider than the M5. Also harder to place on the road.

Visibility is worse, but the interior feels way more supercar-ish and special compared to the M5. The center console is much nicer and so is the gear level.

Performance wise, the M5 felt a bit quicker. Results show it too.

The M8 GC overall felt softer, with less weight on the steering and softer suspension. More of a GT car.

All of these cars are a compromise. Personally the m8 (and my previous m6) felt like they had more personality. For my precision road craving tool I have a 991.2 gt3, for covering miles in a ballistic missile its the m8.

Both M8 and M5 have their constituents. At this price range, the buyers deserves exactly what they want.

I am partial towards M8 GC. The silhouette is unmistakable.

I've had 3 x F10 M5s and 2 x F90s—loved them all especially my last F90. The M8 isn't everything to all men but it is a phenom when it comes to being a Jack of all trades. As you say, it feels more special... because it is. Performance wise, it is 0.02s slower to 60mph across numerous runs and 0.04s slower in the 1/4 mile than my last F90, specifically: 0-60 in 2.59s and the 1/4 in 10.37s (both the F90 and this M8 were tuned with a JB4)... I can live with that because it makes it up in so many *special* ways.

Here's the F90 followed by the M8:
