Fellow M Performance exhaust owners, I am at the edge of shelling out another 7000+$ to BMW, but before I do that I wanted to ask: The MP exhaust is not valved right? Then would the car be loud af at all times even when I put it into efficient/comfort settings?

There are certain scenarios where I would like the car to be quiet...or am I better off with a Fi system?

Correct. The BMW M performance Ti exhaust is made by Akrapovic. It has dummy flap plugs for the valve meaning it is NOT valved and is always loud.

If you want valves get the Akrapovic Ti aftermarket exhaust with valves

The m performance exhaust on the M8 is made by Boysen

https://boysen-online.de/en/company/we-are-boysen/

The M5/M8 system does have valves.

It’s too bad that BMW doesn’t offer this for the M850i

The $300 muffler delete is looking more and more appealing. I’m just waiting for @Vic55 , aka my “canary”, to tell me how it goes

Vic, you’ve got so many nice cars you can afford to screw one up. This is my DD!!

Im not addicted to exhaust or exhaust threads like you LOL... well maybe just the exhaust part.

I have heard the Akra and heard mine of course, in person (with my res removal mods)... I sleep well.

And yes I need to do this--- I think Saturday? hmmmmm

If it does have valves then it would be a no brainer for me.

Guess another 7000$ out of my account

Yes it does. I have it on my M5 and my M8 Convertible should be here in a couple weeks and I ordered it with the exhaust as well. Sounds amazing and, yes, it does have valves.

IMO these after market exhaust are WAY over priced. WTF do they have that's worth 7k or more in these systems? Performance wise they seem to offer a pretty small increase compared to the cost to do it.
I liked the $200 dollar mod. I think it was Vic55 who did it?? You want more sound, do that.
I know the tips option is a big part of it. I get that. But 7k is a lot to pay just to see a tip change.
That 7k is actually more like 9500 in Canadian dollars. Plus shipping...nope. Not a correct value there to me. At 4K i might consider it.
I like the Dinan $200 option for remote valve opening. On occasions I like more sound too. But not at those prices for full exhaust. ?Then I read some guys swapped them out and still weren't happy with sound

This is news to me. Cc micvite - I had thought there weren’t valves in the M Perf Exhaust. Good to know.

I don't think anyone can because they don't have any... Here is the M8 system and it comes with the dummy clips to keep the OEM harness safe.

Pretty sure my M8 stock exhaust has flaps. It has the button for louder or quieter. So it must be flaps.

It does, and I tied mine open---- the button, to me, is worthless as I love sound all the time

the M Performance has dummy flaps--- no active valving

Somebody here just had the resonators removed/taken out. I think that was it. Somebody will chime in on this. It was cheap and they felt it was a better sound than the systems.

Ive had both my m8 resonators removed with the GC also having no 2ndary dps--- but the exhaust length on the GC is much longer so the sound on my coupe is rather loud without the 2ndaries pulled:

I will research this more. I've done this in the past on other vehicles. I wonder if just removing that suitcase muffler at the very end does anything/much. Or I could leave that in and just remove the mid resonators. Doing both I think might make it too loud to be enjoyable as a daily.

My Alfa Romeo Giulia had mufflers removed and the shop said on turbo cars just mufflers out won't make a big difference and that was indeed the case on it. I didn't keep the car long so I didn't care but same concept on this in which case remove the mid-resonators might be the way to go for enhanced sound.

That and quad tips is all I would need. Haha.
