Brake fluid volume?

About to do a brake fluid flush per the recommended schedule. I plan to order DOT 4 brake fluid from FCP euro and then get my shop to do the job.

I am unable to determine how much volume of brake fluid I should get as the manual does not state it. Does anyone know how much I need?

Read Dr Thrillride’s most recent post about the reservoir. There is a video of a guy doing this in great detail. While I’m a very good DIYer, I would not do the flush after watching this.

Sorry about that, I just noticed you are having your shop do it.

I don't know that I've ever seen a volume spec for brake fluid for any car. You might just ask your shop, because it's not a set volume like oil because a lot depends on how they do it. They are letting fluid out at the same time they are adding some in, and they are also letting some of the new fluid out as it mixes with the old. So when they stop bleeding kinda depends on when they think all the old is gone and only new is coming out. A couple bottles anyway. But brake fluid is cheap.

What's the last 7 digits of your VIN? If you don't want to post it...go to one of the online part database sites like www.bimmercat.com and enter the last 7 digits of your VIN. It usually has a list at the top right of the page that contains some fluid capacities.

Here's an example using a G12 7 series...when its VIN WBA7F0C59KGM24921 is entered...the site lists the Brake Fluid capacity at 1.00 liter.

I did mine (M850i) about a year ago. I bought 2 litres just in case and only used one. It all depends on how much you bleed out to the point when the fluid comes out clear. I’d get 2 litres to be on the safe side.
