Great info guys! Just pulled the fuses on my new 24 M8CC. Fuse 206 (Driver side) is 10A, fuse 203 (Pass side) is 7.5A on my car. Tested out between Sport Plus and Comfort and works like a charm.

I want to get the Dinan switch that M8Bimmer has but for now this is perfect for me.

Thanks for the image Humy.

I removed the connectors of the valves and taped them up with aluminum tape. Sounded good around town but I could not bear the drone on the highway at around 80 ... so I re-connected the valves.

No. Matter of fact I had some even in comfort mode. I do think most of them (in Sport+) are piped in though.

I read a lot about pulling the fuses - why not installing a controller?

Plug and Play , costs are around 150 Bucks and Installation is done within minutes.

Interesting comment, I noticed a different very short lived drone around that speed when half accelerating and letting off the gas since I pulled the fuse and installed CAIs. Must be the open valves. I can live with it

Personally the main reason for me is to be still able to close the flaps, when I need to by the click of a button. By pulling the fuses I would "delete" this function and I dont like to delete functions :-) - probably that is linked to "german engineering" and I am an german engineer driving german "over"engineered cars :-D

I installed this one and bought when there was a special sale:

Nice thing is, that you can learn the remote to the factory door opener so you can control the flaps with the three buttons on the mirror.

1 is open for me, 2 is closed and 3 is factory setting :-)

How is it any different than sound mode equals sport in the idrive menu? I can audibly hear the valves open so I wasn't going to bother disconnecting fuses

That is odd as no drone on the highway at least in my M850i at 80MPH (or plus). Perhaps the difference is on that type of driving I use comfort or ECO Pro. Can still hear the exhaust though we zero drone.

The drone I get is in a cold start and it's loud as hell. However, it goes away with the first kickdown of the RPMs. I still wait for the 2nd kickdown though before engaging the transmission.

Absolutely they do not. The gurgles/pops/bangs with the flaps open (just via drive mode or permanently with the fuse pulled) is a factor of the fuel mixture via the ECU. Sport and Sport plus have the richest mixture with the latter the maximum of course.

On the M850i they are 100% real vs fabricated. In fact I've pulled the ASD fuse as well so no fabrication on my M850i period. With the flaps permanently open I can hear the real exhaust even in comfort and ECO Pro above the B&W cranked at 40%+ volume.

I use Sport Individual for regular non-boring highway drives. Setting for that is engine on Sport Plus, transmission on Sport and chassis on Comfort. That way I get to fully relish in the Sport Plus exhaust fuel mixture with the less aggressive Sport transmission. To go full Sport Plus when I want that aggressive transmission then just toggle the shifter to the left which overrides puts it in full Sport Plus (same setting for doing launches).

I call the maneuver my poor man's M button.

Bingo! But I still have the B&W cranked plus the exhaust symphony so best of both worlds. 👍
