Factory warranty running out on M8

My factory warranty on my M8 competition is about to run out. It’s a 2020 with 37k miles. No problems yet. For those of you with similar year and models did you get extended warranty? Did anyone run into any issues with their M8s after warranty ended? If so what were the problems?
And lastly any recommendations for 3rd party extended warranty providers?

I personally would not own an M8 without a warranty. The warranty on my 22 M8c runs out in June 2027. I will sell it before that date. Parts are extremely expensive which is fine with warranty but unbearable without.
Car does not have an engine oil dipstick. If the monitoring sensor goes for engine oil you would have a hell of a boat anchor.
A local BMW tech relayed that story to us a while back.
I will take a bath on selling but will have had a lot of fun in the meantime.

The 2006 Porsche C4 that I had for 13 years did not have a dipstick. That is quite common today and not an inditement against BMW engine design.

All higher end sport cars cost a lot to maintain. You have to know this going in.
If you do the required maintenance actions on the car, there is no reason to think this car will be too troublesome. Yes, the parts are expensive, but so are parts for equivalent Audi, MB, Porsche, etc.

Yes, you can sell before warranty ends and that can make sense for many. I sold my 2019 MB C63S just after my warranty ended to get my 2024 M8, so I know that game, but I did that as I was just looking for something new and I felt that this might be one of the last truly good-looking BMW's. Also equipped with a awesome V8 engine.

Tons of folks are still running the older C63S of my generation with no issues. I still follow those boards as I did enjoy the car. Tons will run these cars for years with no major issues. Just be prepared to pay for major services, or as downeykp suggests jump before the end of warranty.

The depreciation hit one takes when selling a car they bought new as soon as it goes out of warranty buys a lot of maintenance.

Inquire at the dealer about extending the current OEM warranty through BMW...just a thought.

US owners can login to their my garage account and see extended warranty and extended maintenance plan options available directly through BMWNA. You can also price shop with your dealer to see if they can sell you the same coverage for less.

New poster here. Just completed BMW's CPO vehicle service contract wrap process aka extended warranty and used dealer contact recommendations on this site. Despite my factory warranty expiring in March 2024, I had not planned going this route. My '20 M850 has less than 20K miles and family had a dealership in the past so I was familiar with the game. However, having to replace a left mirror camera recently under warranty and given BWM refined its VSC offering for '24 (old program expiring '23 had suspension exclusions among others) led me to change my mind. Focus was on exclusionary policies i.e. platinum protection. Given policy parameters including deductible option ($250) and length (84 months), quotes ranged from $4.3K-$6.2K. Time will tell if it was right decision or not.

Steve Thomas BMW (member on the forum) sells BMW extended warranties at a friend's and family discount. Picked up a 7yr/75K Platinum from them for a song and a dance vs my local dealer. Didn't do the 100K as the car hasn't seen 20K yet so no way in 3 years it will see even 50K. 👍

I would not trust modern BMWs without a warranty. Sure, 95% may not experience an issue but if you are one of the the 5% that experiences an issue, repair cost can become astronomical for things that seem small on these expensive cars.

The only BMWs I've had without a warranty were E46s and E39s as it's easier to find shops that will work on them and know what they are doing.

Would you happen to have a contact name there? Seems they are now BMW of Camarillo?

They are in Carmarillo so perhaps why the name change. Christine Newman is who handles the warranties for friends and family. Of course I only have her old email: Christine Newman <cnewman@stevethomasbmw.com>.
You can try substituting cnewman@bmwofcamarillo.com (domain active as of October 2023) as doubt her actual email changed but rather just the domain. If that fails give them a call and ask for Christine.
