Hey guys, I am thinking of swapping my summer tires on the summer wheels. It currently has the stock setup of PSS with 245/35/20 at the front and 275/30/20 at the rear. My front two tires are down to the wire so they gotta go and instead of getting just two brand new front ones I am thinking of just getting a full new set.

My question is what is the widest tire size I can run on both the front and back that it would fit the stock wheels? I don't mind a bit of a stretch but not over the top. The only reason is to make it aesthetically better and not for any track use or anything like that. Just want to run as wide of tires as possible without any rubbing or safety issues.

I think TheGreatM8 ran 305's on his OEM 10.5's --- not optimal but he did it.

There is a thread, which he didnt start, where he chimes in about fattys (not strippers) on his 811's or whatever oem wheel he had.

You're talking about the 850 wheels, 8" front and 9" rears correct?

Sorry guys should have mentioned, yes for M850.

Not sure what stock size wheels are but the 20" ones that came with these. Just trying to see if I can run a bit of a fatter rubber without issues now that I am replacing all 4 anyway. Thanks.

I am thinking about doing the same after my run flats wear out. I would suggest 255/35 up front and 285/30 in the rear. You should be able to fit them on and have a little sidewall bulge and a little taller tire that won’t throw the speedo off much at all. Please keep us posted on your decision.
Another suggestion that really improved my stances was a set of spacers. I picked up a set of Dinan spacers off a forum member recently and it made a big difference My one complaint with the 850 is tucked in wheels and rubber band tires . But that can easily be fixed with spacers and upsizing tire size.

And for tires since stock size is 245/275, I don't imagine there will be any issues with running 255/285 so it would be a safe bet to do that. I just don't know how big of a spacer I would need considering I'd like to have them sitting flush with the fenders.

I've got H&R spacers, 15mm front 12mm rear. Lowered on KW HAS. I could go a little wider with the spacers but it looks good enough and I plan on getting wider tires as well in the next few months so I'll see how it is before change spacer sizes.

They are Dinan 10 MM front and 15 MM rear
Very close to flush with the fenders , I think if I went with 255’s and 285’a they’ll be perfectly flush

I wanted wider tires, too. Only I went to wider wheels because I want a more vertical sidewall. So I upped the fronts to 9" with 255s and the back to 10.5" with 295s. So the fronts got 10mm more tire and 25mm more wheel, so +15mm more wheel. The rears got 20mm more tire and 38mm more wheel, so +18mm more wheel width. The new wheel offsets effectively pushed my front rims out 7mm and the rears out by 15mm. They look pretty flush now. To me, the OEM tires seem to be maxing out the OEM rims width-wise. Maybe 255s and 285s would bulge a bit?

As I've said before, the M850 should be running the Alpina setup for wheels. 9" and 10" and a taller profile. Mgrae456 is doing this.

They fit perfect and look great. Also the wheel diameter is closer than the stock 285/275 setup so no issues with the XDrive. The tires stay inside the top wheel well so no issues with rubbing on suspension compression

That is a M8 though? I wonder if it can accommodate wider tires on stock wheels than the M850 can? I haven't ordered a set yet but need to right away as I need winter wheels off it, but so far I am thinking 255/285 is going to be my best bet.

I wouldn't go any wider than stock 245/275 on the stock m850 wheels. You can go with a slightly thicker sidewall though (245/40 & 275/35.)

Why not? I can't see any negative with going 255/285. Slightly wider, should fit easily enough on the wheels and have a bit of a stretched look and just fill the wheel well a little better.

245/275 is already maxing out the recommended width for an 8" and 9" wheel. If anything it will hurt performance due to sidewall flex and i don't think it would look all that great either.

If your main objective is to fill the wheel well a bit, I would go with 245/40 and 275/35.

So I guess what I want can be interpreted in two ways. When I say 'fill the wheel well', I mean more so the wheel that sticks farther out enough to be flush with the fender on top, rather than sitting too recessed inside. Like my 19" winter setup does.

Going for a thicker tire would certainly make the tire fatter and cover the top portion but don't think it would help with the fuller/flush look that I am trying for.

Can you post a few more pics. of your car with this tire setup? Preferably, a side view of the car showing both front and rear tires.

Hey folks, need an advise. I’ve installed 18mm front and 12mm rear spacers on stock rims… planning to change the tyres soon, am I good to run a little wider tyres and is it not gonna rub? I’m thinking 285/35/20 front and 295/35/20 rear
