Thoughts on M8 Vert vs M4 Vert
Everyone:
I’ve had quite a few M cars over the years and currently have a modified 2016 X5m, modified 2021 M5C, and 2018 M550. I want to add a convertible to the mix that my wife could also drive (so no exotics for this) and I am going back and forth between ordering a 2022 M8 or a 2022 M4 convertible. Did anyone here compare them and what are your thoughts? I’ve previously owned a 2016 M3 but didn’t keep it long but also owned a 2006 M5 at the time so I traded it for the X5M I have now. I liked how the M3 drove but it felt “cheap” but fun to me at the time. Anyhow, thoughts? |

I had this thought with possibility to save around $60K ....
Not to consider performance specs M8 just offers higher level of comfort and luxury. |

I looked at the M4s before buying my M8 and I honestly couldn't get past the grilles on the M4s.

Not the exact comparison you are looking for, but if I were in the market right now I'd struggle with that as well for one simple reason - size. I went from an MB CLK550 to my 650i vert and it feels like I'm maneuvering an aircraft carrier by comparison. It's nowhere near as nimble and therefore sometimes nowhere near as much fun. I'm not always sure the increased luxury is worth that trade.

M4 has the size advantage but the negative is the grille…M8 has the V8 and the luxury but the size is a negative… but, then again, I could get the M8 vert and order a 911 vert as well! |

If you weren't comparing vert to vert i would have said M4 coupe because more nimble and less weight and more fun But when comparing convertibles i will say M8 all the way The reasons are: The V8 sound top down a big plus The look of the M8 (not to compare to the M4) The luxury and comfort of the M8 The uniqueness of the M8 Also In a convertible car you are not looking for dynamics given the added weight and you loose chassis rigidity so no point to get the M4 over the M8 unless you are tracking the car |

How much more 'boring' is the M8 to drive with its increased size vs the more nimble M4?

Maybe you need to test drive them both. The M8 certainly does not feel as large as it is, BMW did a nice job hiding its size with power/handling. I really like the M4 vert but for me the V8 simply sold it. On the other hand I'll probably own a M4 vert one day as well. That said they are NOT apple to apple but rather can you afford it or not. Do you want a GT convertible or not. The M8 isn't really a sports car but rather a refined, demon of a GT. If I wanted a sports car I'd go coupe anyway. Just my lazy opinion.

I just see a lot of people and reviews talk about how you can feel the weight and it's not as engaging to drive as the lighter M4. I was going to start a separate thread, but thought I'd throw in a slightly OT question in this one since it was already talking about the two.

My previous post was supposed to say that I drove an M8 in Indy if that matters. The M4's weren't out yet when I did that M Track Days.
