I drop my daughters off at elementary school each morning. They have 4th graders as safety patrol open the doors and help the kids out. The second day I have the car, I pull up and the kid keeps looking for the door handle by the rear window. He can't figure out that it's a coupe- he had never seen one. (What a shame!) The girls finally pile out and I hear him tell my 4th grader whom he knows- "your Dad's car is AWESOME!!". My daughter replied- "I know." Made my morning.

Not really something someone told me but....

...I was at buffalo wild wings with some buddies and was lucky to get the parking spot right in front of the front door. After we were done and walked back out to my car there was a family of about 6 people (3 adults and 3 children) all crowded around the front of my car praising it and saying how nice it was. The family starts walking away and one of the little girls goes "Wait! I have to touch it!" and she touches my hood and walks away. You'd think people would have seen a few more 3er's in Houston? haha

As they are walking away the mother looks back to see if her children are coming and see's me and my friends standing there with my keys in my hand and a big cheesy smile on my face. She turned red and was pretty embarrassed haha

I went to get my tints done, and there was a worker who did not know the prices. SO he picked up the phone, and was talking to his "manager" on how much to charge me. And I was listening in on the conversation which went like this.

Shop keeper:Hey, so a customer just brought in their 5 series and wants full window tints. How much would it cost for the bigger 5 series?

My grandpa is about as redneck as you can get (he has 2 fishing boats). He had his friend over while I was there showing him my new (new to me anyways) 335i coupe. My grandpa sits inside and his friend says, "I betcha ain't never seen a redneck in a Bee Emm Dubya before!" I laughed for a while!

My grandma gets in the passenger side and the car handed her the seatbelt...she stared at it for a bit and then starts cracking up laughing! She was speechless about it. (My co-workers named my car R2D2)

I gave my co-worker a ride in it (btw he has an older mustang 5.0 and he loves sports cars). I got to a stop light with no cars in front of me. Light turns green...I punch it...shortly thereafter i get to 60 mph and climbing...and that's when he grabbed the handle saying quietly to himself, "oh shit"... It made me smile

I imagine we don't get nearly the number of funny comments as the S2000 crowd. Over at the Lotus forum, there are three huge threads of funny comments (it gets lots of "Batmobile" comments, too). Unfortunately -- or fortunately, maybe -- the BMW is much more pedestrian than the S2000 or a Lotus.

E46 330 driver is a UT MBA grad and thinks he knows everything. He asked what I drove and I said 335i. Then, he asked if it's the same engine as his car. I said, "no, not even close."

He said his car is still faster and what makes the 335 so much different. I said, "two turbos." To which he replied:

"BMW doesn't make turbo engines."
