BMW M8 Gran coupe winter rims / tires - Need help
Hey all,
So I am looking for suggestions and advice in regards to winter tires and rims. This is the summer tire setup: 20" Rims with BMW 811M (Tires Front 275/25 | Rear 285/35) OR 20" Rims with BMW 813M (Tires Front 275/25 | Rear 285/35) These are the launching variations for the M8 Competition Gran Coupe. My first question is, should I go for 19" or 20" rims for the Winter tire setup? Pros / Cons? Second question is, what rims and winter tire sizes are available for the M8 Gran Coupe?? The dealer I have ordered with is unsure of what rims should be available and preferred for winter tires on the m8 gran coupe… |

We have Pirelli Sottozero 2's/staggered own the stock rims and plan to keep the snows on them as our 813M wheels are a pain in the ass to clean. |

Thats probably a typo from the dealer. Youre probably right it should be 275/35 and 285/35.
What rims are stock on the m8 comp gran coupe? And would you suggest 19" or 20" and why? One dealership suggested 19" for winter setup (more safe he said??). What size should the winter tire be? What is your suggestion? (Or, what do you have on your Pirellis?) |

I know most people go down a size for comfort. The 19s are more comfortable than the 20 or 21, from what I hear. That said I think most winter tires are in even sizes, 18 and 20; but I don't know. I looked into winter tyres but decided that I'd just go with all seasons if I needed, as we don't get too much snow. |

I can see 19" for snows; think Noushy has a 19" winter set but don't think that 18" would clear the brakes. |

Staggered used to be an oddball but with staggered rims it becomes a rim saver. |

I will take issue with a couple of their assertions though. One, a smaller rim doesn't provide more profile. Aquaplaning and ice are secondary IMO. Apart from studded tires there is little one can do in terms of traction and narrow/wide tires will perform equally poorly. As for aquaplaning, that issue would occur with any tire on the M8 and is not really a snow issue (or winter issue here). He is correct on narrow tires; skinnier tires cut better through snow. But again, nobody would use a 225 or less tire on this car. We normally have snow on the ground five/six months a year. The reason I usually don't bother with a lesser wheel set and pay for mounting/unmounting twice a year is that long duration. Snows are on the car almost half the time. At least I want the car to look it's best whenever we drive it. The reality is that the modern torque vectoring AWD system is so good that the car drives exceptionally well in the snow. Have respect for required brake distance, don't drive like an idiot and don't drive that car in a 20" snow storm and you will be fine with any snow tire and to some extend even All-Seasons. There is a reason why most cars in the ditch here are 4WD SUV's or pickup trucks |

here is the snow tires. I almost bought them for my m850i; but decided to stay with stock tires for now and go all seasons when the tread is up.

Thanks guys, very informative !
I found this link https://www.bavariabmw.ca/winter-tire-package/ and specifically this screenshot (Sorry for big image sizes, new here and not sure how to downsize): Im just not sure I like the 727M Orbit Grey rim. There has to be other options? Quote:

9 1/2"F & 10 1/2"R w. 275/285 tires for the M8 vs 8"F & 9"R w. 245/275 tires Offsets are different too. That said, I am not crazy about either rim. I think the 813M is a bit nicer looking for the M8 but the 811M much easier to clean with larger openings. |

Having used Sottozero Series II tires in the past, I can say these tires performed very well in practically all winter driving conditions.
