Laguna Seca 2.0 / M8C Stage 1 / 1:43
As I have mentioned in the other thread, I have tracked my staged M8C yesterday on Laguna. Best lap was 1:43, which is 3 seconds better than the last one (the first time with the M8). My breakdown of the improvement is -1 sec from the tune and -2 secs from late braking as was overcoming my fears.
Front brake pads (carbon ceramic) are destroyed. All 4 tires (including the 2 new in the front) are destroyed. Track takes its toll. Vid with me and other people sliding around, me having fun in the track traffic and the hot lap: |

GPS speed was ~120. I need to push it some more, but turn 1, when you slightly turn left going with all all that speed over the crest, is tricky. Theoretically if I stay on gas through the crest and then brake at the virtual 4th marker, the top speed should be around 135 there. One day

What I have just found out, is that there are no replacement carbon ceramic pads available in stock. In fact, there are none in the country, and there are none in Germany, but they expect them in Germany tomorrow (I guess from the factory?). ETA to get those here is 2 weeks+.
That's a shame BMW. Looking into alternative options for pads with Steve Dinan's Carbahn shop. |

Living the track life vicariously through you and the fact all four tires are scrapped along with the front CCB pads tells me I'm not going to live the track life anytime soon. In order to do so I'll need to get my wife to stop buying endless pairs of shoes at $400+ as well as the purses she buys at $1K+. Then again as the old saying goes a happy wife is a happy life and I have the M850i to drive and can continue to enjoy the track life vicariously.

Well, there is definitely an upside in not tracking your car: you don't have to wait for days for your new parts to come while you are driving the family SUV.
On the topic, I have just ordered Bridgestone S007A tires, went with 285/35/20 front and 295/35/20 rear. |

Up: the car is in the Carbahn shop, undergoing the new suspension installation, negative camber set up, changing tires and pads, when the latter arrive.
I got a sneak peak at the M8 vert that did the suspension mod as well. Visually, the drop isn't that dramatic, but it's definitely a nicer stance. Although I am more interested in how it will handle... |

I have been chatting with the guys there about the lowering option. They are re-using the m5 height adjustable spring sleeves. Just like the kw HAS. So lowering should be adjustable. I guess the testing on Steve’s car was just to see if there was any issues, noise etc.
If they do indeed work that would open up the KW HAS kit for the f90 also. They both have the same msrp but imagine you could get a discount on the KW Quote:

They are doing parts only cost for me w/o labor cost as I brought in the first non-convertible M8 for them to fine-tune this suspension setup. So its already like $1000+ discount for me, I guess that's a reasonable deal

The install there is almost the cost of the springs. Great deal. I think they charge 180 per hour and quoted 7 hours
Love to see these on your car. Are you in the South Bay? |

Finally I got the car back. Not all suspension mods were done yet, they are waiting for new custom coils as the ones they had initially aren't stiff enough. But many mods are in, as the new wider tires & aligment tuning, also a new air filter (funny but it gives +16 whp, they ran a dyno).
It is a whole new car in terms of handling now. |

Oh that sucks regarding the coils. Been waiting for your completed setup and then calling for an appointment.
What type of filter is it. Just a drop in replacement? Quote:

Yes, just a drop in replacement. They said that the stock has 2 smaller filters and they have replaced them with a new single low resistance one.

Nice. I am running project gamma front mount intakes. Removed the entire factory air box and open air filters that sit behind the grills for fresh cool air. I feel a huge improvement in throttle and power but never put it on the dyno. Your numbers confirm big restrictions in the intake

Just returned home from a brief ride in the mountains. The new wider tires + stiffer suspension and a more neutral handling setup are the game changers. I am even more in love with the car now.
Now, to the sad news. I got a CRACK in my windshield, likely caught a rock or something. Sigh. Will have to replace it, I have the insurance for that, but that's one step further from a new car. |

That sucks, feel for you. Happened twice on my m4. Literally saw the rock hit the windshield and watched a small chip spider in a crack across the windshield
Did they get the new stiffer coils in? Quote:

Not yet, as I mentioned earlier it would take them about two weeks. I'll let you know once this is done. |

It is stiffer because of the new sway bars I guess, and also the cars feels more agile/more neutral in handling because of the toe out front/toe in back and the negative camber setup. This + wider tires makes it majestic.
TBH I am even not sure if I want the stiffer coils now. The car feels perfect. I'll swap them and check it out anyways, but might return back to stock coils... or not. Last edited by DRA; 02-26-2020 at 06:29 PM.. |
