delays from Japan

so I ordered some parts from a Japan distributor over 3+ months ago and paid $500 for FedEx/ UPS overnight air mail. today, they shipped via "Pilot" ground freight.
also 1 of the 4 parts is still on back order.

what would you guys do, what do you think is fair?

That’s ridiculous, they should refund you the shipping fee. Did they give you any reason for the delay and the different shipping method?

Can you source the 1 missing part elsewhere? If yes then see if you can cancel just that one part of the order and get refunded - and demand a refund for both the missing part and the shipping as a compensation for the inconvenience it caused you! This amount of time, justified by the lockdown or not, is definitely NOT acceptable especially if they do not warn in any ways prior to placing the order (perhaps a note on their Website?) that it could take so long.

Whats the company? If they are not reputable or very well known, Id get a refund. Who knows when things are arriving these days. I have been burned several times as of late in situations non auto but thankfully I had the bank on my side.

Edit: just the word "ground" from Japan means it wont be here until never.

Agreed on the "ground" aspect as it will still take air or ship (that will take a lifetime) to get the parts to the US for the ground shipping to even start delivery. Plus, once the parts land they have to go through customs which will further add to the Pilot timeline. I'd too look for a refund and walk away from the deal.

That's usually what happens when we have to ship things "ground" from the mainland to Hawaii. That means slow boat across the Pacific which usually adds a couple of weeks to normal delivery and that's just domestic not internationally.
