FBMWWINS, I didn't notice rear view mirrors on your list. Did you just already have those in CF?

My M850i came with the CF package (thus mirrors included in CF). There are though a couple of things (body-wise) that I want to upgrade:

1) Install a REAL rear spoiler - most probably the 3D Design one

2) A simple front spoiler lip (similar to Maxton Design one) to replace the cheap rubber "stripe" from the factory - THE 8 deserve better than that in my opinion

Since you have a euro car did it come with the ///M fender badges? If so might I ask if you could measure the exact locations for me so I can use them as a guide if I decide to install them on mine. Thanks

What would you like to have measured? The distance from the side vents? Let me know. I can also take a couple of close-up pics so you see better. Though this weekend is cold and rainy so I might go out with my daily car instead but I will see what pics I can get with the garage light on.

You are very kind, thank you. I will check it out tomorrow and see what would be best. I am hoping BMW in europe has a pdf I can download and use as a paper template as I'm sure the body shops need to replace them when fenders are repaired/replaced and hoping r33_RGSport can get the link for me. My original plan was to place them on the extractor but unfortunately it may not work, and to be honest, being such a perfectionist, I'm a bit chicken to stick them on the paint without being 100% sure they'll go on in the exact spots.

Great thinking on the template! Please let me know if you do find one as I'd LOVE to verify my placement!

So without doing "wonder" pictures given the bad lighting conditions and reflections and the fact that car is in the garage, I made a few shots and measured. This is what I gathered;

1) The original M badge itself is 5 cm in length and just under 2 cm high

2) The distance between the M (beginning measurement from the right side and going left towards the wheel well and up to where the paint ends) is 19 cm

3) The distance of the badge to the black side vents / trims is 5 cm regardless of whether is measured diagonally or horizontally.

Please see the following pics in order to (hopefully) better understand the above points. Click on the picture - there are several ones and on a couple of them I have drawn it out (or tried at least!).

View post on imgur.com

I would conclude it follows the body lines to some extent, but it is not 100% straight or level with ground. Your idea of using a template is great as in that way you will most probably match it better. I think also looking at pictures and having them color printed and next to you during install is also a valuable help.

Thanks for this, very kind of you. Later today I'll take some pics with some additional areas for you to measure. The template will be key for me, as mentioned I'm too much of a perfectionist not to mount them exactly where they should be, but if we can't get one then your info will be critical for anyone wanting to do this. I'd imagine any BMW authorized body shop in the EU can get the template/link to one.

Sure RJ no problem let me know and I will try to measure as exact as possible. I will have to fetch a soft meter stick because these paints are delicate and the one I have can easily cause scratches. Could there also be some car body paint shops who may have dealt with such things already and have perhaps some template or some sort of a draft to guide one with such operation?

Also I checked the M Emblem on my F32 4 series model and it is NOT cerium color - though also not black. It appears to be the same size and is the same one mounted on the newer BMWs as well (G-Series cars):

G01
G02
G08
G11
G12
G20 - G21
G28
G29

The part number is: 51148058881

Therefore anyone who wants it ORIGINAL, and does not wish to get it cerium and then having to paint it, could purchase the above part number and be up and running in no time.

Thanks, this forum, and the people here are just great.

Does your M850 trunk emblem match the fender's which appears to be chrome or is it cerium? Mine is a darker matte gray which I guess is considered cerium and why I ordered the badge in cerium.

One thing to be cautious of regarding the Maxton kit, is that while it looks good, it feels quite cheap.

I know that is reflected in the price, but the feel and likely front-lift on high speed runs is what put me off.

Yes I confirm the M850i emblem on the right side of the trunk was in cerium grey as well. I asked to have it removed along with the XDrive lettering. In fact I only kept the side M badges. There seems to be only one OEM part number (at least in ETK) for the M850i emblem, which is the cerium grey one: 51148090642

Correct and that is to considered since for those low prices (as their rear spoilers) you cannot expect a lot. It would also be interesting to know how their components look after a while (exposed to weather factors, car washes, etc.). I am in doubt still and it's not a priority now. The REAR spoiler for me comes definitely before that and it's not going to be from Maxton.

Those who have the following spec on their 8 series:

S65AA Preparation External Cd-player

Can you confirm that this is situated under the glove box? I am thinking of retrofitting it (still have the occasional CD I listen to) and would like to know if it differs from the factory solution or not? The required parts (65122451536 & 65122451539) are just over 200 Euro in total but I am trying to figure out if there is much labor to be expected or whether it's pretty much a "plug & play" solution.

So finally and just on time, actually on the Christmas finish line, I made myself a much wanted present by getting rid of the tiny almost unnoticeable spoiler lip in favor of a REAL rear spoiler!

The candidates were (in no particular order):

1) M8 carbon spoiler from F92
2) ACS Schnitzer
3) 3D Design

For comparison here they are:

https://cas01.autoscout24.ch/custom/146/8085146/15.jpg

https://www.jms-fahrzeugteile.com/me...or-spoiler.jpg

https://cdn.bimmertoday.de/wp-conten...-Tuning-04.jpg

Now I know each one may have different taste/s, preferences, and in my case the ACS spoiler won the contest! Next to an excellent price I got, the ACS is the one I like the most because it is a little "longer" than the M8 one in that it embraces the sides/shoulders of the trunk lid somewhat but not with quite the same length as the original invisible tiny lip did.....
The 3d design, while being for me almost same price as ACS is in my opinion, by looking at it more carefully, too bulky and a little wider than my ideal spoiler should be.

So technically and aesthetically the ACS rear carbon spoiler ticked all the boxes for me!
Last but not least! There were ZERO issues with removing the original spoiler lip on my M850i. The latter could safely be removed and NO damage occurred to the paint in not a single spot! All cool thus, as this was one of my fears after reading some contributions here in the forum a while ago.

Now onto the pictures, of both before mounting it and held on top of the tiny lip to see how far the real spoiler goes as compared to the original variant, along with a few taken tonight as I picked up the car this afternoon with the ACS finally mounted. The pics with the new spoiler are dark but I will shoot some pics with sunlight at the next occasion.
