Error Msg.

When opening and closing the convertible top I get the below "Check Control" message. It only happens about 60% of the time. The top operates fine even when the msg. is displayed. Has anyone else seen this? I had it in the shop and service did a number of voltage checks and said everything was fine. They couldn't duplicate the error and suggested I use a battery tender when car sits for a coupe of days. I had the tender on last night and this morning I got the same error. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A few possibilities: Are you certain that you're maintaining pressure on the open/close switch? (You'll get that message or something like it if the switch senses an even slight loss of pressure.) Is it possible that the shelf in the trunk is edging out of proper position?

This mainly happens when you go over speed (> 31 mph) while closing/opening the top sp the mechanism gets interrupted.also it happens sometime when you dont push or raise the top button all the way so the mechanism gets interrupted.
It happens to me also. Just ignore it

You will also get this message if you are not on level ground.

It happens while I'm in my garage. So that eliminates the level ground and speed concern. I will pay attention to the pressure on the switch though. I did verify that the shelf in the trunk is in the proper position.

It's not a major concern presently, because the top has never failed to open or close. My only concern is the time that it doesn't close when I need it to close. Thanks for the responses.

I've been paying close attention to the switch pressure, In the beginning I thought that was it, 3 times without the error msg. Then I got it again. I was hoping someone had the same msg. and knew the answer. I still have 3.5 years of warranty. So we'll see what happens. Thanks again to everyone that offered suggestions.

I get that error too, I would guess 30-40% of the time on level ground while not moving. It’s always when you first push the button, not midway through, so I don’t think pressure has anything to do with it. It seems like it’s a software bug since it says it can’t open/close as it is opening/closing, so I ignore it.

I've never seen that error on my convertible. Except when I push the button and release instead of holding down. Maybe it's a software glitch. Maybe it's interference from another fob radio signal.
Maybe it's distance from the car or location (trunk vs hood , etc)

I agree, It's got to be a software glitch. The dealer had no clue, and said they couldn't reproduce it. I think eventually someone will figure it out, or there will be an upgrade which will correct it.

Updated my software version from 07/2019.55 to 11/2019.70 about 10 days ago. I haven't seen the error msg since. Apparently they corrected it in the update.

Well that's one positive of an update...did your exhaust sound deteriorate?

Luv what looks like a vintage Flexible Flyer you have hanging on the wall...had some amazing times on snow days up north as a kid on one of those...God what i would give to go back to them again

Nope, no change in exhaust sounds. Still have all the pop's and crackles.

You have a keen eye. Yes that is a Flexible Flyer "60" I also have a "41" which was my personal favorite. That sucker was the fastest sled on the hill. Those were the days.

Just for clarity what modes have the pop's and crackles? Sport Plus, Sport and/or Comfort?

Sport Plus is the loudest, ( I think because of the higher RPM's) but also "Sport" and "Sport individual"

Thanks and that tracks with my 11/2019.70 experience as well. Sport itself has been reduced from what it used to be but it is hard to tell is Sport Plus was. My guess is the focus was on Comfort (which no longer has a loud cold start) and Plus as they are the two more used modes across the board. For me I just updated my Sport Individual which by default has the engine and transmission set to Sport to modify the engine to Sport Plus. Previously I only had the chassis/suspension modified to Comfort for a smoother ride on the surface streets here in Phoenix.

I did the same with Sport Individual as well as I noticed it wasn't as pronounced as it was.

I really do enjoy driving this car...

Yes, Sport Individual with the engine on Sport Plus is now the best config after the exhaust note neutering. I too really enjoy driving the car but just am somewhat disappointed at BMW's actions to limit the exhaust notes vs my original stock version that could gurgle/burble on demand in Sport only. Plus, even the default cold start in Comfort mode had a great sound as well which is now completely negated so I'm either pressing the Sport button to go to Individual or Sport Plus ever time I start the car.
