Apologies if this has already been covered - I couldn't any reference to it.

I've noticed that on my 2019 M850i Coupe, when placing the iCraphone on the charging mat, the phone wakes up in the Wallet mode. This is particularly annoying in a first world problem way. I'm assured that pre 2021 model year, the use of iPhone as a digital key was not implemented, and yet it's trying.

On the My BMW app, there is no option to add a digital key.

Anyone else have this issue, or even a solution to add the iPhone as a digital key?

Not sure why it's opening in wallet mode outside of your suspicion it's tied to the digital key functionality. I'm changing my work iPhone (it just sits in a drawer as I have my personal Google Pixel configured for work app access) to do some testing.

I can indeed confirm that on the 2019's, 2020's and 2021's through June 2021 the NFC hardware and digital key is Samsung only. Starting with builds in July 2021 BMW used different NFC hardware to support iOS and expand Android beyond Samsung only.

Thanks and makes somewhat sense as the key is in the wallet. What doesn't make sense is that it's pre-July 2021. I guess the iPhone still detects NFC in the wireless charging tray (just like Apple Pay) so it opens the wallet regardless.

I just tray the stupid cell, start the car and pull the cell and put in the door pocket.
