No EV for me at least for the next 10-years. I think the closest I will get to an EV for a next car is the 2024 M5C which is a hybrid! Maybe around 2026...

If hubby was willing to spend the $ and give up his Q5 I’d love an IX. Yes over priced and yes buck teeth, but the grill works in the IX for me so I think it’s gorgeous. Even more so in person.

But no, can’t give up my 8 for it…

Also, I wish people would do more research on EVs (if intention is to be more green) which would kill the vehicles. Including mining/obtaining the materials for batteries along with manufacturing the batteries and vehicles, EVs cause more CO2 emissions than an ICE…if you drove an ICE over a 180k miles its total CO2 tons produced still doesn’t equal the EV.

I think BMW is going to loose a lot of sales with EV's.
I feel that many folks who loves BMW's love them for the engines they have. It's the heart of the car and determines it's fun factor substantially. And for many this is why they buy them at all.
Take out the fuel burning motor and all you have is an appliance as somebody stated.
BMW's are mostly bought by people who know and appreciate cars. They aren't easily wooed to something WAY less exciting to own.
IMO BMW owners will look elsewhere with EV stuff more then other brands customers will.

Are we talking the vaporware new Tesla roadster at $200K plus if it sees the light of day? If so I'd still pass as $200K plus buys an amazing ICE vehicle and as someone else stated EV=no soul. I prefer the soul and doing it this weekend to drive my wife to Flagstaff for her conference on Saturday.

Total win as Friday night in Flagstaff and a hotel for the evening but just getting there is the true value. I-17 is a wonderful twisty curving interstate with significant inclines along the way to the 7K foot elevation. The wannabes are left in the dust as the M850i will continue to pull and accelerate on every incline. Sure an EV can keep up but I've got more gas in the tank to do it 3 times vs an EV can barely make it once at hard driving before the battery is depleted.

A hybrid I wouldn’t mind considering is a Porsche Panamera Turbo.

Best of both worlds…electric for the short runs and an amazing engine when you want.

If it's a looker just like the 8, sure. ICE, BEV, FCEV, I don't care. I'm in it for the looks. And so far no car comes close.

Maybe a Taycan but probably not. I’d probably get the new AMG GT in 3+ years or so

Taycan Turbo S for daily if I have some bad ass ICE weekenders.
EV daily is obnoxiously convenient. Features and quick response make it a much better daily than most ICE cars out there (especially the fast ICE ones like the M8)

I've had several EVs over the last 5 years and several family members own EVs, it really is that much easier and more convenient to live with on day to day

But completely letting go of ice to ev only isn't for me at this stage

I previously had an i4 M50, which was fun in terms of acceleration. It even was quicker than my M8 at low speed—acceleration from 20-70 was brutal. But it had no soul.

No sound of an engine; no ability to control the transmission; no skill required in driving; just stomp on the pedal and hold on as the car does everything for you. I could see how that is appealing to younger people who don’t correlate driving excitement with revving out an engine to redline and shifting at the perfect time.

But for those used to that experience, EVs really take the fun out of driving because there’s only so many times that you can accelerate quick before it gets boring. Maybe the Plaid’s bonkers acceleration would change that analysis, but I suspect not.

As a second car, the M50 would be great. For a daily it was quite nice. But as a driver’s car, no way.

Also the iX is very comfortable and relaxing to drive - we are testing it right know cause the M8 has the break-in service.

I really like the iX but at least in the UK it is hideously expensive.

It is a sweet looking car. Apparently Tesla has a design rule that all of their other cars have to be ugly. The S isn't bad, but the others are ugly. They must have gone to the same design school as the current BMW designers who are only allowed to make ugly cars. But I still wouldn't pay over $200k for it.

That's a nice loaner. My dealer gives out X2's or similar level cars.

i just had loaner ix50 for 2 days . One reason dealers give them as loaners because they can't sell them.
Nice EV SUV but too many little things I don't like.

Actually funny you say this because mine started to loan out the I4 as they have about 30 on the lot for sale at under MSRP.

I had an I4 for 3 days while the wife's 2017 X5 was at the dealer mack in March for 3 days to repair the rim (they sub that out) and get a new tire . It was okay overall but just not a fan of EVs or even a PHEV.

Agreed. Even the original Tesla roadster is nice looking as well. There's a guy with one somewhere in the area as I see it in the grocery store or Total Wine & More parking lots on occasion.

I remember back when it was originally released and it piqued my interest in Tesla overall. Gotta love a company named after Nikola who changed all of our lives vs even imagining the world still stuck on DC.

I hear you, but on the other hand, the exhaust from my 8 is so neutered, the only excitement I get is from the fake ASD. Even with the Reduced setting, I feel like most of what I hear is fake which I cannot stand.
