Ok, mine finally updated. I had the car sitting in my garage while I washed it and when I went to move it over 5ft and turned it off it started running. Just finished recoding with Bimmercode. There is now an option called FBS. Anyone heard of it? From the limited info I found it enables other sounds for the car - iD8, Mini and Rolls. I enabled the one called BMW 2021 which they seemed to say was iD8. We'll see how it is tomorrow when I finally drive it. There are also more ASD options. There's the general on off and then specific ASD things like burble, up shift, etc. I turned them all off as ASD is just a horrible idea on BMW's part.

I understand the new V8s with twin turbo heat up a lot more but still the cooling fans in these cars are huge. The car should not heat to that point! I would get it checked out in case something else is going on.
Agreed as even with the crazy summer heat here in the Phoenix summer time the M850i never has had an issue. Definitely something for the dealer to check out as it sounds like something is amiss.

That's interesting as the upload from the cellphone to the car only requires it to be connected to the cars WiFi hotspot as that is how the OTA transfers. In general that's 15 minutes or so and BMW has changed it so you have to have the engine on vs in 2020/2021 I could do it in the garage with just iD7 on.

Good luck and now hopefully with the OTA on the car you'll get the final step to apply it. That's where the hazards "bug" comes into play but since you've already toggled them on off hopefully the OTA bootloader kicks in. 👍

Won't believe it until I see it as right now on iD8 there are 4 vs the "redo" matching the 8 available with physical buttons.

Either way it's a 2 step process: flick the iD8 wheel up so it displays the screen and then either scroll/press the wheel or just touch the screen. I say I doubt it as with iD7 you can program what I'll call discrete memory settings. For example on the M850i #3 pulls up the bass trim itself. On iD8 tried that but it won't do just the bass trim but rather just the audio sound menu. So more scrolling, etc.

You’re saying I just need to toggle the hazards on and off a few times? And that will take my (multiple times) stalled update process over the finish line?

This must be a joke. But of course I need to try it now.

I forgot to mention. I usually listen to my music from a flash drive. I disconnected it for a couple of days and the update came through. Not sure if it's a coincidence.

What about iD9? I'm a little confused on the roll out of 8, 8.5 and 9. Either way, even iD27 can't make buttons that aren't physically there be there.

I did it because, easy enough and nothing to lose, but have no clue if it actually did anything. Where did the hazard idea come from? I missed the origin of it.

That would be from me as when my dealer upgraded the M850i to 07/2023.33 the tech included the attached printout of the diagnostic as to why the OTA wouldn't install. I LOL as I had never used the hazard lights once in 3.5 years of ownership. So definitely a bug in the OTA bootloader preconditions check and hence the advice to at least try toggling the hazards on/off while on a drive.

iD9 is basically BMWs adoption of the Android Auto system that is gaining traction across the industry. It will in theory allow for speed of development vs iD7/8's custom Linux based OS.

LOL'd on iD27 and hard buttons. Ironically though apparently Volkswagen has gotten their proverbial heads out of their asses and are indeed bring hard buttons back albeit to the steering wheel only for now. However, the article I read of an interview with their design chief indicated that's the start basically due to consumer backlash and they are listening to their customers.

What is this company's listening to their customers thing you speak of? Neither I nor BMW have heard of such a thing. I will have to Google that.

Toggling hazards on and off (a few times) did nothing fit me. 03/2023.67 is still sitting ready in the car and I’m supposed to follow the in car instructions. LOL.

Now, Park Assist inactive? That’s an option to switch off somewhere? Here I go down another rabbit hole again…

I think was did it for me finally was moving the car 5ft in my garage. The car apparently has to be cooled down for it to run, so it never ran after a drive. Then I washed my car in my garage and when I was done I moved it from the center back to the side of the garage and it ran.
