Software Update

I have version 11/2022.60 installed in my 2023 M850. I have the new version downloaded to my phone and I've been driving around for over 2 weeks waiting for the car to start downloading it. I've downloaded it to my phone now 3 times and have rebooted the i drive system. After speaking to the BMW Genius, I have everything set correctly.

Is there any tricks to get this thing started. I've done it before, numerous times in my other car with no problems.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank You.

Mine downloaded and installed quickly, the only issues I had is gesture controls stopped working and radio kept stating "no audio source" unless I say "Hey BMW play xyz station". This problem kept going on for several days and then fixed itself. No idea why the BMW updates are so complicated... My wife has a 2022 MDX, whenever there is an update, the car downloads it automatically (no need to download to a phone) and installs with no issues. The next time we get in the car, Acura advise you the install was successful.

Thank you both, Yes the version I'm trying to install is 03.2023.67.
I'm due for any oil change next month. If it doesn't install by then I'll have the dealer upgrade it for me.

Unless anyone else has an idea.

In my case 11/2022.60 was the OTA that never would install. Went through the go around twice with download to the phone, upload to the car and never got the install trigger but did get the end of drive message occasionally stating the OTA will be ready after cool down, etc.

First go around with the OTA uploaded to the car eventually timed out (got the message in the MyBMW app) and vaporized from the car. Checked for an OTA in the car on the next drive and sure enough found 11/2022.60 again and started the process all over again. Total failure even with charging both the AGM and Lithium batteries.

Ultimately had my dealer do the upgrade when I had the car in for a new left rear tire that picked up a construction staple. The tech provided the OTA diagnostic attached which was a joke as it indicated the OTA failed to install due to the pre-check hazard lights off failing. I've never used the hazard lights period but now have cycled them on and off once after the upgrade to 07/2023.45 just for good measure. You may want to try cycling yours as well to see if it helps with 03/2023.67 installing.

It's worth noting that some who have had their dealer help with the OTA just fixed and installed the OTA. I'd cut to the chase and ask for 07/2023 as even though I didn't ask I expected my dealer to do so and sure enough they did.

Is it odd that my car just downloaded the 7/2021 update last week when most of you already have 2022 updates done?

My car did that three weeks ago and it skipped the 2022 update and went directly to 2023.67

There are some software N-x requirements for OTAs. So in this case what was on the car couldn't leap to 11/2022. Once you get 07/2021 on them you should be able to leap to 03/2023.

I've been waiting for mine to go as well. It implied it was going to do it a few weeks ago, but doesn't seem to have happened yet that I'm aware of. I have to check the version I'm on

Toggle your hazards on and off as the OTA bootloader definitely has a bug regarding properly detecting if they're on. 😜

Thanks, Bloozeman, I'm going to try that and see what happens.

Mine has been transferring for about a month. I tried deleting the download a couple of times this week with no luck. I'm trying one last time today and if it doesn't work, I'm not going to worry about it anymore.

I can't say I've ever noticed a functionality difference after any upgrade ever other than I have to redo my coding, so its not annoying me too much.

Thumbs up

Well I figured I'd try to toggle the Hazard flashers and see what happens. Yesterday I took the car for a short ride and toggled the flashers about 4 times on and off, nothing happened.

Today as soon as I started the car, it started to download the upgrade from my cell phone. I couldn't believe it. IT WORKED!!!

It's in my garage right now finishing up.

Weird I got the update as about to leave the house. The engine felt weird, looked down, and the coolant temp was very high. I wonder if it's due to the software updating?

Yep, because the bootloader reads the pre-conditions on entering the car prior to engine start up. So you either get the "upgrade ready to install" (can't remember the exact language) or as we say from my hometown Nogales, AZ "Natha". 😜

So the toggling worked while driving as the frigging bootloader has a bug with the hazard light status to the point my 2020 M850i never even had them on once but it stated they were on in the failed diagnostics. This forum sharing for the win. 👍

So did you install the update before leaving? Hard to discern from your post. Or did you just get the notice it's ready to go but passed as you were leaving and had somewhere to be? If you passed the install is still dormant and the drive was on your existing iD7 version so not sure was up with the coolant temperature.

My apologies. I went to pull the car out of the garage. I noticed the "preparations for upgrade" message. At the same time I got a phone call and the car was idling in the driveway. After about 15 minutes of idling I noticed the motor vibrating a bit more than usual. I looked down and noticed the oil temp (not coolant) was almost to the red. I turned the car off for a couple of hours, went to run an errand and everything was normal. And the update did finish installing.

Same experience here trying to upload software update to my 2023 M850 convertible. Two long, long failed attempts to upload software from my iPhone. Then tried toggling flashers. Third attempt worked perfectly.

This is still not normal, what if you were stuck in traffic for 15 minutes or so??? Years ago I was stuck on the Windsor/Detroit bridge in the middle of a hut summer day (temp btw 35C - 38C) longer than 15 minutes, AC blowing the crazy in my 740i with no issues at all. I understand the new V8s with twin turbo heat up a lot more but still the cooling fans in these cars are huge. The car should not heat to that point! I would get it checked out in case something else is going on.
