Interesting turn of events at VW as sales drop but diesel sales increase

Diesels Account for 23% of VW Sales in 2013, Overall Sales Down 7% for the Year

Sales of diesel-powered automobiles accounted for almost a quarter of Volkswagen’s 2013 vehicle sales in the United States, although overall sales of the Wolfsburg-based automaker declined.

On Friday, VW announced U.S. sales figures for 2013, which totaled 407, 704 vehicles, a year-over-year decrease of 6.9%. Volkswagen had sold 438,133 cars in 2012, which was in turn a 35% year-over-year increase. 2013 marks the first time in 40 years that the company had sold over 400,000 cars in two consecutive years....

it's a tough market especially when you are trying to be the numero uno car manu. in the world. Yeah for diesel.

sales are down most likely because VW has perhaps the most uninteresting lineup of any manufacturer outside of Toyota

I cant name one car that is remotely interesting. and the new jetta / Passat is just terrible looking.

^^^this^^^ is absolutely how i feel about VW.
I was/grew up a VW guy. In the early 90s i owned mKII golf 2 16v sciroccos and a 97 Gti vr6. The MKIII platform is when things started to go south with me and VW. These days you could not give me a VW, the cars are absolute VANILLA, boring/ plain and under powered. They brought back the 2.slow? really?
I really don't know who are the people that buy Vw's these days
