How can you say that without even seeing the regular 8 series Grand Coupe. It's currently camouflaged. :

I know. I haven't seen any photos of the non-M Sport, the only 840d I've seen has been the super loaded M Sport with Carbon Fiber Pack.
Has BMW shown the non-M Sport? More than likely we're going to get an 840i stateside at some point, curious to see what it looks like.

Is that an X7 behind the 8GC on the auto transport trailer? Grills look HUGE!

Been asking that question for awhile now ............... but judging by what Scott26 just said doesn't look like there will be a 840i state side, only m850i coupe, gran coupe, and convertible.Really dont understand BMW thinking ? I mean why not give two options to everyone, why only Europe?

Well, in fairness the only reason Europe is getting a second choice is because it's a diesel, which there was never any chance we'd get over here. But while there might not be an 840i here at launch, I would be shocked if there wasn't one sooner than later. You know BMW, no niche is too small to split, and there's definitely room in the lineup between the 440 and M850.

Yes and no.
While coupe does mean cut in french, it also means a two door vehicle.
Volant also means steering wheel in french, yet it defines also a flywheel.
The semantics involves more than what a word means literally.

Plenty of examples in any language.

COUPE
1.
a car with a fixed roof and two doors.
2.
historical
a four-wheeled enclosed carriage for two passengers and a driver.
(Carriage is also a two door vehicle)

How difficult can it be to make a slim and elegant hoffmeister kinck, like the 6 GC? This new kinck makes the car look like a Kia Stinger GT.

New BMWs are so fucked up. Reverses things that work and make the car less modern. See, for example, the automatic steering column handle that have become mechanical. Tesla loved BMW's automatic handles and copied them. If it's so difficult for BMW-FWD customers to understand this system, they'll also should have to reintroduce a mechanical gearshifter, because the electronic must be too smart and hard to use for them..

Not digging the new Hoffmeister kink; makes the C pillar look too chunky. That 3/4 view reminds me of like an 05 Bentley GT Continental and not in a good way.

No, that's the 7 series LCI (facelift) with M-Sport package.

Word is BMW is set to reveal it towards the end of this year.

The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe prototype has been spotted again.

The 8 Series Gran Coupe (G16) will arrive in 2019 as a 2020 model in the U.S. The U.S. will see an 840i, 840i xDrive and M850i xDrive (with 530hp). Europe will also receive an 840d model.

Besides the M8GC concept you've only seen a camo covered pre production vehicle.

And to be completely honest the picture you posted doesn't looks sporty at all. The new 8 coupe is in every way a step forward from the 6 as it should be I would expect the same from the GC

Not for nothing, it's not always about "sporty". I actually appreciate the Fxx 6-Series in not M-Sport variant much more, given it's a well spec'd one.

Same goes for the LCI F10, something about the non Sport, loaded with all the tech made it so appealing.

Or maybe I'm just getting older? Either way... it differentiates the real ///M from the standard model, yet I find both to be equally appealing (standard for Class, ///M for Performance)

1-4ers on the other hand.... M-Sport without a doubt.

The hoffmeister kink on the 8GC makes it look like a Kia Stinger. Also that wheelbase looks long. Interested to see the differences in wheelbases between the 6GC and the 8GC.

Completely agree with this comment, you can get away without the hoffmeister kink on the Coupé.. just but on this.. no, it just looks plain awful with no elegance and destroys the look of the car from any angle apart from front and rear.

It would put me off buying one.. just looks soo unbmwish
