That's exactly what my M850 does and if in gear it could cause an unintended acceleration type situation - as you mentioned crashing into a wall.

What does the car idle in sport plus? 1k?
Does the idle go down if you press the brake? If so, is it lurching back up to normal after? I swear my M5 did this, too, because I remember almost hitting something in front of me while pulling the car into the garage. If I remember correctly, I feel it got better once I got used to the brake pressure and how much was needed to kind of roll the car forward. I wonder if you were pressing the brake but not as much as you thought you were….and it allowed it to roll forward.

This scared me just reading it 🫣
I have the same car, in all fairness I’ve found the driver assist amazing on the motorway in particular (“freeway” for all those in the US) and I’ve started using the park assist recently, not because I need but I just think it’s dead cool. I’m suddenly a little bit concerned, what if it does something random while travelling at high speed? I had assumed that it was absolutely 100% failsafe because it simply wouldn’t be allowed on the car if it wasn’t. Clearly I have slightly too much faith. Glad you’re ok, please share the outcome, would be very interested to know what they say and how much responsibility they admit to 🤔 |

Presumably the bmw experts have had a look at this? I only ask as barely a month goes by where there isn’t the report of someone doing exactly that..the average age here is around 103 though Last edited by Seaford; 03-03-2023 at 03:40 AM.. |

Such a mistake is more common than we think; we are in a confined space and our foot can easily touch the wrong pedal. |

I don’t understand how the car can override the brakes. Literally, the calipers should be pressing the brake pads against the rotors at that moment. By what mechanism is this even possible?

What may be happening is: the brake is released expecting a normal idle acceleration at say ~800, yet the rpms are double that, so when releasing the brake the vehicle lunges forward...

All I can say is I hope there is a way to tell that it was in fact the car that did this (blackbox hopefully) and not a user error cause I can see the dealer, maker, insurance everyone saying it's not possible unless the most obvious proof slaps them in the face.

Was that before or after the unintended acceleration? If it was before then I have no explanation at this point.
