Fair enough, it's probably one of these that you don't notice till something breaks or stops working

This one's got the newest features for iD7 (all the rest were iD8/EV focused) including tuning the lane departure steering to one's desire. I'm good with it now after the original couple of months freaking out when it did it. Now it's like buttah ala Barbara Streisand (yep my music catalog is eclectic and vast) so let the car do its thing and no freak out on my part.

That said I'm looking forward to the release to hit my car. No need to worry about any further ECU firmware tuning aka neutering for exhaust as that all was done back with the 2020 releases to the best of my knowledge.

My assumption is yes--- your tune is DME related and not OTA.

Ive done quite a few OTA updates in my life while my cars had actual DME, non piggy tunes, zero issues. Now an OBDII update could wipe it.

Of course nothing is certain in life but two things ....

Any way when to tell this will hit the states for a '19 850 cv? I want to have some remote software work done, and it's my understanding that these updates will wipe that work out.

Sometimes you can trigger it by going into diagnostic mode (hit start/stop three times without foot on the brake and car off).

DME? Found dmetuning.com and they list a M850i but only a 2020. Same for a M8/M8C as in June of 2020 BMW deployed the locked ECU. Mine's a October 2019 build but it's been widely reported on the forum that subsequent OTA's locked the ECU regardless. Fact or fiction?

Description on the DME site is "Expertly calibrated and meticulously refined, DME Tuning’s ECU software is guaranteed to give you MORE of a good thing." If the ECU is locked then I guess that's a no go.

You are talking about a retailer called DME tuning--- Im using the letters DME in relation to the ECU which is just another way of phrasing it.

DME is usually a Porsche term for ECU and I carried it here.

Ive done probably over 150 tunes in my life with revisions on many cars.... to date I have not had an OTA wipe a tune. That could be possibly very different with the S63tu as Ive only done piggys but I was chiming in with my tangible tuning experience.

I have no experience with DME Tuning (the company) but have heard great things.

EG: I have a DME (non company related) tune on my Porsche and it needed to be unlocked. I have had 3 OTA's and no wipe or relock. BMW owners mileage may vary.

Thanks for the education as always. I didn't know that DME was the Porsche terminology. Unfortunately in the BMW land (at least reported here on the forum) even those with the pre-june 2020 builds that did not have the ECU locked ended up with a locked ECU via subsequent OTAs. Guessing my M850i's ECU is locked at this point although left the factory unlocked. 😥

There are several factors in play to get the OTA pushed to the car for the final install. One OTA took several weeks to do so but sounds like you're way beyond that now.

One factor is cool down as the car will only do so on a fresh start after a drive. That's 30 minutes but everyone's mileage has varied. Heck kept the car in the garage for 3 days and still a no go.

The OTA upgrade used to notify that you need your parking break on but now that is only part of the prompts when it starts doing the update. For me that turned into auto hold not being fully recognized so had to disable and manually set the parking brake.

The other factor likely in play is battery charge. The car can run as normal with the alternator keeping the required charge to operate as normal. However, the OTA requires a specific charge level (no published doc on that) or it won't kick in. The reason being if the car senses a low enough battery it will not do the OTA in fear that it doesn't have enough juice to complete. Rest assured that is a good thing as a failed firmware update due to a battery failure will absolutely brick iDrive. Same analogy as to a smartphone update requires either enough battery or plugged into a charger.

Just saw this update come over today.... Checking back in, any issues? My 2019 M850i exhaust note is still great, don't want to lose that!

Did you guys read the description of the software update? If not, scroll all the way to the bottom. It says "Elimination of all exhaust backfire sounds while in sport setting"

Don't do the update!!!!!!!!!

I received the remote software upgrade notification in the "My BMW" app and read the version information summary within 'New features and improvements' of version 07/2022.58. I read the entire summary verbatim and did not see anything regarding the exhaust. I currently have a respectable amount of backfires and burbles in my '22 850 vert and don't wish to jeopardize losing them, so I ask you, where exactly did you see BMW state that the version 07/2022.59 software upgrade will result in the "Elimination of all exhaust backfire sounds while in sport setting"? Thanks

I didn't see where it said this either. Can you take a screen shot of that wording to show us?

His winky emoji meant it to be a joke regarding the elimination of the exhaust note

Then again, nothing is guaranteed that it won't happen.....

According to BMW release notes, the engine cool down wait period only applies to M cars.

And you trust that documentation? Get the message on every OTA push to my measly M850i but it too contains a fire breathing V8.
