Could be the compound of the Bridgestone. Sounds like the tires are fighting for grip. The overall structure of the Bridgestone may not be fit for a 8 series . Are the Bridgestone tire BMW ☆ star rated too? Please let us know.

Yep 100% - not every BMW has run-flats. Those without come with a tyre repair kit and an inflator in the boot storage compartment.

The Potenza S007 was an OEM fit * marked tyre yes. What’s suspicious is that they no longer come from the factory with them…

Goodyear or Pirelli are the OEM fit of choice.

I had this issue with the OEM Michelin tyres on my 840d, front inside edges totally worn out and MOT illegal at quite a low mileage. Didn’t realise it was so widespread.

I’m now in a new 840i with OEM Goodyear tyres so will be keeping a close eye. This one is RWD whereas the diesel was XDrive if that could be a common denominator, as it sounds like it probably isn’t being caused by one brand of tyre only.

From what I’ve seen, the issue seems more common in xDrive cars - which incidentally are a lot heavier at the front (840d block is quite a bit heavier than the petrol, and the 850i is heavier being a V8). I’m still running Potenza S007’s and the car has just ticked over 8k miles and wear on all tyres is even - I’ve frequently put the fronts on full lock and had a good look with an inspection lamp and they look all good. I’m still planning to change though - most likely Hankook Ventus S1 Evo3, which seem to get glowing reviews, and over £300 cheaper than a set of PS4S.

Happened to me also on Michelin tires (m850i). Pictures are of the front tires - rear ones had 5/32 left at ~13k miles.

Hello all,

Did we ever get anywhere with BMW UK on this - i've got a late 2021 car with just under 12k miles and the fronts are worn right down on the edges - just wondering if it's worth pursuing BMW over

For those who have changed the tyres - which ones have you gone for and is the wear any better?

The car is only used for general day to day driving - never any track or performance driving so seems strange to have tyres which are down to the cords at 12k miles - my 2019 330i lasted around 32k before needing changing (so can't be driving style)

Thanks,
Usman

Angry Blasted Tires

Hey, just wanted to follow up on this to see if any news on this issue. We have a 2022 m850i xDrive. Have gone through 3 sets of tires this year for this exact same issue. Dealer keeps telling me to get another alignment.

Do the Michelin's fix this? Anyone gone over 10k miles on a set?

Any other fixes?

I have a ‘22 Comp with 6,xxx miles, and have not observed this on my tires, yet.

On my ‘83 633, I installed a suspension kit probably around 1986 or so (the manufacturer of which I do not recall) on the car for handling purposes, with Pirelli Zero’s. The manufacturer said that a byproduct of this installation would cause excessive and premature wear on the inside of the front tires.

I’ve read through this thread and only saw one reference to the stock suspension setup...is it possible that the OEM suspension setup is the cause here?

JMO, but I don’t think it’s the tires.

My M8 Comp has almost 23,000 km on it. The original Michelin Pilot Sport tires are almost mint really. Not a lot of wear. They should last a season or 2 for me still. For the most time I drive fairly sedately I suppose. I do get on it but with the amount of police in my area caution is best at times. These cars are so fast that it take no time at all to be way over the limit. I save that type of driving for places the cops won't be too likely.
I've used those Michelin tires on my other fast cars and they are great imo. I don't need any kind of snow or winter features as it gets stored over winter. So those tires will do for me.
