Intermittent low coolant warning...

Hi Gang,

My car has been giving me the low coolant warning randomly...if I turn the car off it goes away when I turn it back on.

I have had it at the dealer 3 times already, initially they said the coolant was very slightly low but now they are stumped...

Anybody experience this or have suggestions?

Happened to me as well. Dealer claimed it was air pockets in the system causing sensors to read low.

Happened to my M8 too. I got coolant from the dealer. They told me M8s run hot with high heat so it can evaporate quickly.

The one at the dealer is NOT premixed with water 50/50 so you have to measure and do it on your own. They recommend not to use the green kind and the blue kind only. That fixed the problem for me but we'll see as time goes by. Could potentially be a slow leak, if it happens again I'll force them to do a pressure test.

Agreed as it hit my 2020 M850i that tied back to a failure at the VPC to properly fill both the main tank and turbo charger tank. In my experience the turbo tank was golden but the main engine reservoir was low. It's an easy fix and as called out already you need the "blue" coolant vs the leagcy "green" coolant.
