My main issue is that the interior isn't luxurious enough, and even though the car is nice it doesn't look exclusive enough. We need a moveable spoiler with matte paint finishes, OLED tail lights, and carbon fiber parts. We need the car to make us feel special with a start up similar to the Audi A7 and Lincoln Navigator. We need a move immersive interface from the interior of the car; the radically shaped screen with digital gauges isn't enough. *sigh.*
It really is nice looking at least when it comes to exterior design.
Interior is actually boring and very uninspiring. Actually a very lazy attempt to move interior design to the next level.
BMW should reconsider the need of some very unnecessary buttons and knobs in the center console and maybe start using bigger digital screens for more functions.
I agree with you about it not being a competitor to the s-class coupe, because that car is in a completely different league, at least it offers better rear space and no B-pillars.
The only wow factor in this car is the design and the 0-100 (60) times and let's not forget the OTA software updates.
My two cents.

I love it. The interior is clean and modern, one area BMW was lagging behind its competitors.

I actually like the interior, prefer a more simple (german) design with quality materials to the bling bling design Mercedes is offering the last couple of years.

If they did for the advert, there's no way we would be talking about it right now. I bet in reality there won't be a need to take out the phone.

You’d lose that bet. That’s not how NFC works. You have to hold the phone up to the car just like you have to hold it up to the reader to pay for groceries. The purpose of having it on the car is for people who don’t want to carry a key around, or lose/forget their key.

Pick one up for half price in 3 years when someone turns in their lease! That's what I did with my 650.

It's good but not as beautiful as 6 coupe. I think it will grow slowly with time.

You are right. I know NFCs work only in very close range. I was trying to make the point that there's a difference between ads and reality.

Its because of the NFC chip. Needs close contact for near field communications. Similar to using ApplePay with either iPhone or Apple Watch.

You'll always be 3 years behind driving a older model vehicle out of warranty, as the LCI will be out by then in 3 yrs.

So you do anything exciting this weekend?

Nah, just stared at my new 8-series and drove all alone on some random salt flats in the middle of nowhere.

Yup I've been saying this since the concept came out. This is just a redesigned 6-series. It looks nothing like the original 8-series which is what they SHOULD have done. It needed a long wedge-shaped hood, narrow square kidneys, pillar-less windows, and a phat a$$ like the E31. Instead it's just a generic "big" BMW. And the interior is too damn simple for such a price tag.

I do think the Gran Coupe will look fantastic though. The concept and renders look like a car deserving a $100K+ price tag.

It has nothing to do with d*ck riding Mercs. We are just being objective and non-biased.

Also given the fact this car already weighs over 4,400lbs in Coupe form and with Carbon Core, I'd buy one in a heartbeat if it came with some sort of V12 like the original 8-Series did. It's not like 6.0L V12 would be adding much more weight anyway.

Would've been nice to see this line up for the 8-Series instead:

M850i Coupe - 6.0L NA V12 - 530hp / 440tq - RWD only to reduce weight.

///M8 Coupe - 4.4L Twin Turbo V8 - 625hp / 553tq - with MxDrive

///M8 Gran Coupe - 4.4L Twin Turbo V8 - 635hp / 565tq - with MxDrive

Would be a good idea to give the ///M8 a bit more power than F90 M5 due to the fact that it's not an M6 in name and would more justify the higher price tag. Also would be an even better idea to give M8 Gran Coupe just a bit more power and torque over the M8 Coupe to also make it a bit more exclusive and powerful, also because it'll weigh more than the Coupe.

Why BMW never highered me as their lead product developer, I'll never know.

It sounds like you objectively like the merc more. Which goes back to my point of why are you here commenting on this car? Go buy the merc. I objectively and non biased like what bmw does better than what merc does.
