Car Wash

Anyone with experience in taking their convertible through a car wash? Any issues? I typically will hand wash but occasionally a quick drive through the car wash is needed.

This post makes me cry for your paint job. Those spinning brushes with all of that embedded dirt and grime.... I'm cringing just thinking about it.

I assume you're talking about "touchless" car washes.

I try to avoid as I've heard stories of the high pressure water getting past the seals and into some sensitive control boxes causing corrosion and eventual failure.

and peeling any ppf or vinyl

or grabbing a hold of a tiny paint chip and making it into a very large paint chip

Yes, touchless. This is the answer I was looking for. My main concern is the impact on the fabric and seals. I think I'll use the detailer. Thank you.

The real issue is if the knozzles are too close to the top its self it can cause it to change tone, typically it will show lighter in areas where the water was too close to the fabric itself.

Yes, I've used my local car wash once to twice a week for the past 30 years for all my convertibles: Mustang, 3 series, 2 corvettes, F-Type, & now M8. Ceramic coating keeps the paint perfect. Love to have clean shiny vehicle...

I'll reiterate what everyone else has said. I've owned various verts for the last 25 years. Rule number ONE I learned is not to use high pressure water on the seals. It will cause leaks.

Which seals do you think are most vulnerable? The top goes over the edge of the windows. Maybe the seals around rear windshield

While I enjoy bonding with and washing my car at home I realized long ago that my desire to have an always clean car supersedes my desire to have a perfectly swirl-less car. Sometimes I don't have the time to give it a proper home wash so it goes through the carwash.

I have almost that exact same setup. lol That pressure washer is one of the best when it comes to actual volume, which for anyone who doesn't know is what really removes everything from the car not the pressure.

I wanted the Kranzle but I only have a 15 amp outlet. I like it to be a little bit quieter but otherwise I love it.

My older Kranzle was a hard worker but I found this to put out damn near same volume for 1/4 the price. Now will it last..... lol

What's a car wash? I have not washed my car in over a year. PPF is the only way to go. It gets dirty I use a micro fiber and some waterless wash. 20 minutes later it looks brand new. Another 20 minutes on the rims and I am done in way less than an hour.

I think the OP's main concern is with the high pressure water "impact on the fabric and seals".
This obviously isn't a concern with a hand wash, which, in my opinion, is preferred to a high pressure automatic car wash.

Hand wash was certainly be ideal. I'm just not willing to spend the money on that for as often as I would want the car washed. And I don't think there are really any local to me anyway.

The guys on here treating a rapidly depreciating 8-Series like it’s a 250 GTO..

Live a little and take it through the touchless wash. I had a loaner 840 convertible when they FIRST came out (late 2019) and watched the dealer take it out of inventory and directly into their mechanical car wash.

Maybe paint has changed, but the wife's 2016 X3, with almost 60,000 miles, is painted in Mineral Silver. It is bulletproof. It's a rich, deep silver. There's hardly a ding anywhere, even the hood. I have touch-up paint that I've only used once. I don't notice much in the way of swirls. I occasionally use a ceramic detailer. Probably been hand washed 10 times. All the rest thru a regular nasty ass car wash. At least 60 times. It looks awesome. Still.

I'd like to replace it. She won't give up the color. They stopped offering it long ago. I'm about ready to pay the 5 extra grand.

(I seem to only have 5 pictures of it. None very good This'll have to do.)
