All the OEM parts to complete the Cerium eradication effort on my 2020 M850i that BMW botched the build on were delivered late last week to my dealer and installed yesterday. I am now a 100% happy with the result!

Although I agonized over Shadowline vs Chromeline (which should have been on the build as I figured it would make the Tanzanite "pop" more) the end result of Shadowline (with added benefit of carbon fiber mirrors) is absolutely stunning. Kudos to BMW North Scottsdale and my CA to make it happen on their dime after the BMW manufacturing faux pas with my order.

I have cerium on my Gran Coupe as well. Can you post part numbers for tha following?

- Mirror Caps
- Front Grill
- Side gills

I’ll probably go shadow line vs the carbon.

Thx!

Posted already in a separate thread but here are the part numbers (nothing on the BMW accessory website yet and my CA said they were just recently released in early December). The problem with the Cerium mirrors is outside of the carbon fiber mirror caps not sure anything is available in Shadowline so you'll need to ask your dealer on that. They worked perfect for me as one of my chosen options on my build is a carbon fiber roof. Also worth noting I did not capture the list price in the documentation as it was marked "Internal" as my dealer ate the cost plus labor.

Hopefully in the future M850i customers can opt for shadowline right from the build and without this hassle.

I picked up my 2019 m850i off the lot in July and it had carbon fiber and shadow line trim directly from BMW Germany.
I know because I saw the shipping container that landed 2 days before I drove away with my m850i.
I didn't have any problems. maybe it was because you're new 2020 special order?
it maybe just a one off mistake somewhere?

I believe this was only an issue with the M850i Gran Coupes. For some reason, the option was removed. My initial order had it included, but when later confirmed it no longer had it on the build list. Very odd/disappointing to say the least.

I had originally built a 2019 M850i to spec and was told in July by my SA I'd need to wait until at least August as they were cutting over to 2020s. For the 2020s a few things changed, e.g., in the M850i Coupe comfort seating was now standard and I could no longer directly select Shadowline if interested along with the add of the infamous ZDX watered down Driver Assistance package 2 that botched my first build slot.

For Cerium vs Chromeline vs Shadowline they are all standard options with Cerium being the default. To trigger Chromeline (which was my choice as I thought it would make the exterior color "pop" more) this is set by the wheels selected. For my build this was option 1N7 (20" M V-spoke bi-color orbit grey wheels, style 728M) which adds 346 (Chromeline). Both my initial botched order and replacement order included 1N7 but for whatever reason the second order was built with 1N3 (20" M V-spoke cerium grey wheels, style 728M) which triggers the standard Cerium trim.

My dealer still had the original build on their floor when I picked up the 2nd build so along with the order sheets we couldn't figure out why BMW botched the second one. Hence, the start of the Cerium eradication program which kicked off that day with swapping the 1N7s on the original build with the 1N3s on the new build as I prefer the look of the bi-color wheels especially with the interior black now matching with the Shadowline trim (could never understand why they trigger Chromeline in the first place).

I just spent some time this morning reviewing both the 2020 Coupe and Grand Coupe ordering guides and it appears there are two ways to get the "standard" Shadowline trim from the factory. The first is via ZTK (Cooling and High Performance Tire Package) which includes 1N0 (20" M V-spoke jet black wheels, style 728M w/ HP non RFT) and ZM9 (Shadowline). The second is choosing 1N1 (20" M V-spoke jet black wheels, style 728M w/ perf RFT) which also triggers 7M9.

Although Shadowline is considered standard, i.e., NC under the pricing guides it appears the only way to get it for no additional cost is with the 1N1 wheels which are also NC. The High Performance Tire Package comes along with an additional charge but that is for the included 33T M Technology Package (additional engine oil cooler, etc).

x6Hawkeye IMO there was a failure on BMW's part to explain the situation vs just dropping the 7M9 option from your requested build. Of course if you do not like the look of black wheels then ultimately the outcome would have been the same. Hope this helps any others out there looking to order a 2020 M850i Coupe or Grand Coupe that want Shadowline trim.

I believe my situation was either a miss at the dealer or BMW USA. I found out literally the day it was locked that the shadowline was no longer selected, even had the chrome around the windows which I really dislike. I also learned they had the wrong interior color (they had my initial choice, which I had changed over a month prior).

Dealer blamed BMW USA. Neither seemed to be able to change anything so I backed out of the order. Was very frustrating.

Nearly went MB GT63 (love interior, dislike exterior) or Panamera GTS or Turbo (love exterior, hate interior.... new electronics are horrid), but ended up really liking one of the first M850i Gran Coupes available in another state. I bought it from them and they transported it to my house, worked out well. (Although it didn’t have all of the options I wanted, such as the glass controls or full shadowline).

Unfortunate as we really liked our local dealer, just got sick of waiting.

I can say the BMW is a beast, I absolutely love it. Prior daily driver was a 991.2 911 Turbo S, I thought I would really miss the endless torque - but I am very pleased with the power (and sound) this car has for a sedan (especially given the fact it’s not an M8!).

Totally agree on the beast aspect of a M850i. Granted I came from a Lexus GS430 which is equivalent to the 550i from the same year power wise so the new ride is flat out amazing in comparison. Absolutely love the sound as well and find myself turning down the B&W audio just to hear it more.

Can you comment on how difficult the change is to complete or have no idea since the dealer did all the work? Do the parts just snap out/in? How difficult is the front grille replacement? Does the front bumper need removal?

The correct mirrors with the “Extended shadowline” option are:

Cover Cap, primed, left: 51167422719
Cover Cap, primed,right: 51167422720

Which are supposed to be painted the same as the body color. However, nice choice with the carbon fiber!

Check the image in one of my earlier posts on the thread. The mirror caps in it are the Carbon Fiber variant and look gorgeous on the M850i.

The part numbers in the image from my dealer's bill of materials are definitely correct. That said back in December my CA stated that the Shadowline parts and Carbon Fiber mirrors were just released. It is not surprising to me that 4 months later BMW has not updated their existence in an online presence considering I called out the ZDX package bullshit on the BMW NA website in August of 2019 which they did not fix until January 2020. I'm guessing that your best bet is to call a local dealer and negotiate a price for the mirror caps utilizing the part numbers.

At least my dealer will offer 10% to 15% off parts. In fact I know its a no brainer if I can wait until their Black Friday sale (actually lasts for 2 weeks around Thanksgiving) 15% off is readily available. I've been able to get the 10% off on off cycle purchases as well.

In all honesty by the time the Shadowline parts and carbon fiber mirror caps arrived at my dealer the Cerium totally grew on me and I was liking it. I think the original shock of just another BMW snafu on my 2nd order sent me over the top when the cover was pulled off the M850i in the receiving bay. I literally stood there in shock and said to my CA the exterior trim was wrong. I think you could hear a pin drop after that statement before my CA went into action.

I also had more than one co-worker whom came to check out the car in my office parking lot state they liked the Cerium (or as described by them "brushed chrome") and weren't so sure about swapping for black. In the end I'm totally happy with the final result but could have easily lived with the Cerium after the initial shock wore off.
