Interesting that you posted this. So I have a m4 comp and newly aquired m8. Also have a f85 X5m at home. I was pretty much set on a new f90 m5 have driven the car many times.

The exhaust note is much more aggressive especially the burbles. You could hear burbles even in comfort. I have realized that the m8 will only burble in sports plus. I thought the m8 being more a “sports car” would have a more aggressive exhaust note

Don’t get me wrong burbles get old quickly.
Especially on my m4 where it’s non stop but I would like the exhaust note match the aggressive styling of the m8

I would have thought the same as well. Worth noting that on my M850i burbles are present in Sport but more aggressive in Sport Plus. I've dialed in my Sport Individual to set the chassis settings to comfort for some of the crappy streets on my commute but the engine and transmission set to Sport. In doing so I get the best of both worlds and get to enjoy the sound of the V8 vs the Tesla Model S that was also on the shortlist (great car) but has the lack of soul I was looking for.

I think the M8 sounds better, it's probably closer to a 'real' exhaust sound. Having said that probably nothing will sound as appealing to me as my E61 M5.

Sounds like garbage, thanks for the reminder I need to get around to coding the burbles out of my M2C

Must be nice. You got those kind of options and resources get an Akrapovic on that "race car" and call it a day.

Honestly both sound like shit. They dont sound at all like a powerful car, more like an old 1980s 4 banger with holes in the cats.

Even the e46s sounds better stock than both of those.
And nothing touches the E92 or E61 V8-10's

S55 vs anything... basically anything will win.

BTW where are we as a community on burbles? I went from kind of loving it, giggling first few times, to absolutely despising them.

is overrun the industry's answer to terrible sounding exhaust notes?

that would get annoying and both being revved does not sound all that great.

M8 is a real stunner, especially from the rear.

I have owned both the e46 and e92
M3.

The e46 was annoying raspy.

Lol. In today's world, your avg car person equates good exhausts with how much volume and burbles a system produces. Kids these days don't know anything about tone or actual quality exhaust notes

If we're being honest, nothing new will ever beat the sweet notes of the S62, S65 & S85 engines.

I think the Z4M exhaust for S54 was a nice improvement over the E46 M3. Still has rasp but sounds more full.

Burbles were cool for about 30 seconds. I put those guys in the same category as the dude still driving a riced out Honda in 2020 and if you do it to a super car? To me that's even lower that a ricer.
