Considering trading out my M850i for an M5?
Reasons stated in the video. I’m going to potentially be checking this car out this weekend. I’m still loving the 8 series, but a part of me wants to own a true ‘M’ car. Please share any thoughts, thanks!

You can pick up an M8 now a days for good prices. But you can't go wrong with an M5 either....

M5 non comp is probably not the way I would go though--- dampers are not dialed with the springs and the steering was even more muted. I had a non comp First Edition in 18 and then borrowed a comp for quite a while and enjoyed it further.
The S63tu is the same of course but the HP slightly dialed via boost (up) on the Comp. So if you can swing the Comp do it. You also get the M Sport (not performance) exhaust which has a different center section for a little more OEM grunt. There are other things too but based on the pic above at the start of the video it looks as if you are considering a non Comp. The 8 overall is more polarizing and unique while the 5 can get more lost in the masses of the series that is all over the place. Just my thoughts being an owner of both over the past 6 plus years.

^ It's hard to find comp M5's, that's a problem I'm having. I like to get lightly pre-owned to save a bit on first year deprish, but all I'm finding locally is 2019, 2020 models, etc. I want 2022 or newer.

I noticed this too, many who buy the M5's they buy it because it also meets the family needs too. Meaning they will probably have more longer term ownership. Kinda the opposite of the M8 due to overall cost.

114k ask is not excessive for an M5 right now ... Tupper you might have some wiggle there but not a ton

I've owned a 21' M5C before and I'd stick with the M850i. Power difference is negligible unless you do a lot of tripple digit racing and the quality of the M850i is a couple of notches better. Stock the M850i sounds better, but I did have the Eisenmann exhaust on the M5. Had the full merino leather but it still it didn't feel as well built as the 8 series. From a comfort perspective they are night and day.

Great video! Judging by your reaction, you seemed a bit underwhelmed. Curious to hear more of your impressions after driving both cars back to back. I test drove the f90 M5 before getting the M850i. It’s a very nice car that’s more firm and louder than the m850i. I also test drove the M550i the same day I drove the M5. They look very similar, so similar that I doubt the average person could distinguish the two. I had two main concerns about the M5. 1) It’s more boxy and has less road presence than an 8 series. 2) the new 5 series has started production. I couldn’t see myself spending that kind of money right when the new generation is hitting the road.

I like the part where you said you felt the difference in torque right away, but the torque is actually the same and peak is at around 1800 RPMS (same as M850i). At least you acknowledged it in the video. The "feeling faster" is probably just the initial placebo effect or maybe just weight difference?
Also noticed that you "only" drove the M5 (non-competition), so the power difference is even less than my experience. Lastly, the M5 MSRP is less than the M850i, so I would definitely consider it a step down and not up. If you are looking at an M5, I would at least look at the the Competition trim. I'm surprised they still make the non-competition to be honest. Personally I'd pick the M3C over an M5 if I'm coming from an M850i. It's faster, more nimble and it's not as heavy as the the 5/8. I also noticed you are in Illinois. Have never gone to that dealership but have purchased from Laurel, Bill Jacobs and Zeigler before.

1. Exhaust. It's easier to get an exhaust for an M5. I want an exhaust. The options for the M850i are overpriced and few/far between. By modding I tend to be happy, and it can make for another video on my channel 2. It's faster. Not a hugely important one 3. You get full sized rear seats and save about 400 lbs. To get my required rear seats in an 8 series, I need a 4700+lb car. With a 5 series you are down to 4300+lbs
