M8 Downpipes

Interested in getting downpipes, which brand do you guys have on your setups? Looking for catless. Also roughly how much did it cost w/ installation?

I had RedStar catless downpipes but couldn’t live with the smell hence switched back to stock primaries and just left secondaries catless

+1 to Justao if you are going just for sound you might be happy with just secondary's. If you do want all out performance though primary's on these cars are horrible for holding heat and getting restricted quickly by design. I'd reach out to r33_RGSport for the hook up.

I had MAD secondary catless downpipes installed this past Monday. 1st performance mod on my M8 Comp. I can hear the turbos whistling now and the gurgle and pop sounds amazing especially going through under passes. Love it. No trouble codes or tune needed to threaten my warranty. I paid around $250 for the pipes during Black Friday week and a little under $800 for install. I had another shop quote me ridiculous $2K for install, so I am happy.

Secondsries are easy to install… primaries way more complicated

I know I paid probably $300 more than I should have for install, but I'm running out of time for salt drop in the Chicagoland area. Weather looks solid for at least 2 weeks, so Vroom Vroom Pop Pop. I bought M8 a month ago, want to have some fun. It doesn't sound spooling as my Macan twin turbo, but its getting there. I'm working on it. The serious machine Macan twin turbo gets all the salt, my M8 wont

And do you have any audio clips of your secondary downpipes?

Yes, those are it. I received a call back from another shop today quoting me $2k for install. So maybe $800 wasn't so bad. Sorry no sound clips. I drove the M8 alot this week and hearing all kinds of different gurgles and pops every day

Sheesh, $800-2k? was not expecting that much just for install. At that price point won’t it also to just be worth it to get primaries installed at the same time? Is there a large difference (as far as performance /
noise) between getting just secondaries done and getting both primaries and secondaries done?

Primaries will trigger the CEL, hence you need a tune… performance wise with catless downpipes you can push even further… but the fume smell is really bad for those cars

Armytrix secondaries here. Had them done when they did the cat back. Think it was $200 extra to have them installed. It’s plenty loud enough with the valves open

cold start

Shops that aren't familiar will think they have to drop the subframe so that's very likely why the big disparity in install price.

I would suggest a thermal coating or wrap on the piping. I did ceratoke 1800.

Simply configure M1/M2 buttons on a steering wheel to engage sport+, and press the button before starting the engine simple as that

So - for any who have done this, in order to switch out secondary cats only, you only have to drop the exhaust and remove the big front aluminum skid plate +/- a few plastic pieces to get to the V bands and mounts for the secondary cats?
I was thinking you had to come in from the top (by the primary cats) to get access to loosen the secondaries..
Thinking about doing this job myself…

"DIY Guide: Swapping Secondary Catalytic Converters in Your Vehicle"

Swapping secondary catalytic converters involves dropping the exhaust, removing the front skid plate, and a few covers underneath. Accessing the V-bands and mounts from below is typical; you likely won't need top access near the primary cats. If unsure, consulting your car's manual or a professional is wise before starting the job.
