Top 10 ? Hmmmm

https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/g4...tK2tZYuoyiNDp4

I'll have to defer to Vic55 as he's the only one I know who has had some of these cars.

Interesting that our 8's only made #6 in this article.

Also amazed that Dodge is #10, and it is even in the line-up.

Also...I know its opinion based coming from Road & Track magazine so there's that.

They lost me with about 60% of those cars are not Luxury but out right sports cars. That F-Type is not lux is a freaking beast.... But like TheGreatM8 said it is Road and Track..... I think they are saying Luxury means it comes from a brand better known for it but I also agree why is the Dodge even on this comparison.?? Hell 3 of the 10 are BMW's.... LOL

Its always an honor to actually own one of the cars on the list... and in reality Ive only owned a few iterations of the list plus the M8:

2020 R8 - no major changes to the 2023
2014 F Type R - decent amount of change vs my launch car in RWD
2013 SL63 - no comparo to the 2023 mega change
2016 Turbo S - big changes with the 2023 large changes

A nicely equipped SL63 is 208k. No way that makes any sense.

No m3c on the list but a Supra. Hmmm. Might have to go look at one.

Obviously, the list is highly biased to be inclusive of brand and price diversity. If truly focusing on "Luxury Sports cars", that is a "performance car that doubles as a luxury cruiser", how are these not on the list? M5, M3/4, even M2, AMG GT, AMG sedans, Aston Martins in general, Audi "S" "RS" cars, Bentley CGT, Caddy black wing (what ever the letters / numbers are). I'm sure we can keep going with a list of cars that are "better" than a few on the list.....

For sure, Pretty much the winner is whoever advertises the most kinda deal with most these magazines.
Still cant get over that Dodge though... LOL

I did take the time to read the write up on the M8C and although the words were mostly critical of the car, they talked about a track in. Oregon that sound like a lot of challenging fun.

10000000% it doesnt and thats why these cars are all sitting... which I love because the MBUSA is going to need to throw down trunk cash to move them.

I have one for 198k msrp with full triple net discount (12%) and will see what the trunk monies are. Ill guess 20k and then the car will be priced right.

Its like the 2020/2021 versions or our M8's where the base was 130k and then the comp package was a 13k add on and now its 134k all in (mine was 130k all in as an early 23).

The SL has rear end issues along with an identity crisis as its too heavy to be a true performer yet not elegant enough to gather its current ask ---IMHO

I'd take 1,2 4 and 6. In all fairness #4 is not as performance oriented as the others but the styling is top notch, the interior top notch, the NA V8 F'ing glorious (and they have membranes to allow the sound into the cabin vs BMW's BS ASD) but the Infotainment system sucks ass.

So Vik you're in the 160k neighborhood. I mean that's much more reasonable but I still think it's a pass for me. I'm my view the M8 I'd take over a SL63 and a M850 I'd take over a SL55. I'm not a fanboy by any means in fact growing up a SL was a sign to me you made it. The lastest generation just doesn't do it for me, neither did the last 3. For me the 8 series is a prettier car. Also I'm not a fan of the new Mercedes technology I know everyone will have there own opinion but I just don't like that big ipad like screen in the middle. I bought my mother a new E class and I just can't get used to it.

My first real car after my 1966 Volkswagen square back was a Dodge challenger… any challenger will be in my top ten and I’m actually considering a hell cat for the heck of it….it is a beast, period…

Agreed. Didn't grow up as a Dodge guy (my Dad and his brothers only bought GM) but if I was in the muscle car market a Hell Car would win over the Camaro equivalent. Not enamored by either's retro looks but hands down the Hell Cat is a beast and the easy winner.

Can my M850i count as being on this list? If so, then I get to say that I currently own two cars on this list.

Come on, M8 folks, think about us little people! We might not be quite as fast but we’re still cool because we have a V8

Vic55 I didn’t know that you once had a Turbo S.

I’m curious why you went with the GTS this time around. In my experience, typically people tend to go in one direction up the Porsche “ladder”. Carrera——>Turbo or GT car as opposed to the other way around.

i have had 5 of them... 2003, 2007 (the 3 and 7 were not S), 2011, 2014, and 2016.

I went with the GTS because I got an ADM of less than half what the market was asking at the time while Turbo S's (992) back in May were literally around 70-90k over msrp and I knew that market would die. And yes MMR that was once high 200's is now in the low 200s. My GTS buy was on a whim, got a call Monday and took it Wednesday.

I have had a 2018 GTS as well and always found that car to be meaningful 911 but with a very fair price point. Add in the stupidity of the Porsche market and it was an ez buy.

Obviously you know the Turbo S and non S are faster but thats a given. The M Engineering tune with data logging a custom file has made things more interesting as the GTS weighs less. Its probably a 129-130 trap car now and thats fine since I have a faster car than the Turbo S anyways. But sadly I still yearn for the Turbo S and I wont lie- Im pricing a few now including a nice vert...

I agree but with triple net the car is around 172 and then with the 20k Im looking at its going to be circa 150... still not better than an M8 Vert but I have the coupe and I cant be that redundant LOL.

Im just looking as its not a car I must have and probably will not make it home EVER.

^ I hear ya, I actually think that the Turbo S is WAY overpriced with ADMs (and frankly, the GTS too, but that's just my opinion).

However, if you get a Turbo S with an M Engineering tune....holy crap that would be one blazingly fast car.
