Nice tag team on design language from Adrian Van Hoodynk and performance from Frank Von Meel. Active Front and Rear Anti Roll Bars Four Wheel Steering All Wheel Drive Active Differential There is a lot of performance and tech going on here.. and as indicated in the video.. the 8 series is clearly the top of the lineup now... Ill make some personal comments being more of and old car bmw fan rather than new ones .
The 8 proportions look very good. Front stilling not liking it at all. Headlights more specific i get the image of the ford mondeo. Kidney grills very disappointed in the design- hideous in my eyes. Front bumper a lot of styling, to busy not good in any way, just plastic shapes anybody can do. On the back i like the the shape, the taillights. Rear bumper is to busy with shapes. It is plastic, can be made easily any shape. Adding so many shapes is like trying to please to many people and loosing personality. Interior i prefer the 6 over the 8. Dash lines are not a good design, dials ....its nothing racing or sporty looking at them, steering wheel to many buttons on a boring layout. Center console i see range rover like type. Conclusion great looking shape, disappointing details and interior. This is just my opinion formed looking at media information. I am sure in real life the car looks a little better due to enthusiasm |

''A lot of carbon fiber because power to weight ratio is something that's very important to us'' ➡ Pointing towards the Carbon Pack additional inserts in the front bumper that are only adding weight to the standard bumper

That rear spoiler is....well I'm not entirely sure of it's purpose. Wonder how much more down force a pencil glued to the back end of the car would provide lol. Cuz that's what it looks like. An afterthought. Don't get me wrong I hate the GT looking eccentric ones you see on Subaru or Mitsubishi's but I'm sure there's a happy medium. Actually surprise they didn't opt for a dynamic one like Porsche, Audi, and jaguar use.

This is a great car from all aspects
HOWEVER They are talking about the focus on lightness from the carbon core and other elements etc YET This car is heavier by 600 lbs compared to the E63 650i which I’ve owned !!! keeping in mind both are V8s and at a similar dimension, and equipment. I know 4wd adds weight but shouldn’t be that much and compensated with the carbon infused chassis |

BMW has been using power to compensate for their weight issues for about a decade now. |

Then.... BMW AG touted all the weight reduction in the F80 vs the E90 ... but the entire vehicle is larger , so all the weight reduction instead becomes an offset and the vehicle weighs fractionally less. So they then resort to adding more power. But then the wheel and tire sizes aren't big enough to really use all the power. So then they add on " M " X drive.. and tell consumers that's the key to putting all that hp and torque down .. which adds more weight.. and they dial up the power. We've watched the M2 pork up right in front of our eyes... so much so that now it weighs nearly the same as an M4 (why ?!) but I'm sure that BMW will be touting the hp/weight improvement and the 0.1 second faster time (DCT only ). BMW can add a carbon core to their entire G Series lineup and will likely not even manage to knock 50 lbs of curb weight off versus the outgoing model. The only manufacturer that seriously cares about low curb weight is Mazda. |
