most of you guys will think i'm nuts but I was going between the E90, the X3 (quickly dismissed that choice)
but very seriously considered a mini cooper S.................... a fun little car well loaded for 25K, you just have to wait 11 months to get one from the dealer I work with |

Why not. I read that many super / luxury cars owners were all thinking to shfiting a more relaxing and easy going car e.g. Mini. So long as your women are not walking away from you even you don't have a BMW. Do it!

The supply of mini's in CA is pretty limited, the dealers sell them about as fast as they get them
If i'm paying good $$$ for the car, I'm not paying for options I don't want (so I have to factory order everything) they'd told me it was an 11 month leadtime to get a mini from the factory so I got an E90 and only had to wait 2 months...... |

I guess I should have put G35 as a choice in the poll, since there has been so much talk about it!!!

Yes, ideally one should pre-test a poll to solicit options. In this case, the poll might have been a little more interesting if you had listed the G35, Acura TL, & MB C class in addition to the Audi and Lexus. Probably safe to leave Cadillac, Saab, Mazda, Passat 3.6, and Volvo out of it with this crowd. And maybe ask us which car we personally would choose if we could not get the E90. But if you are interested in the direct comparison, pitting the E90 against the Audi and Lexus was just the thing to do.

So far IS350 is winning the best competitor poll. Between IS350 and A4 they win more than 73% of votes. So even if more cars would have been added to the poll, on 26% votes would have been divided between them.

My vote would be for the A4. I have been driving one (3.0 Quattro) for 3 years without a single problem or concern. I am going with a '06 330XI (on order for a February delivery). BMW drew me to the 3-series, Audi did not push me away.

G35 hands down the closest to 3-rd series by driving feel.
Lexus is too different kind of car. I had deposit on Lexus, but it has too many shortcomings to ignore. Even with amazing horsepower and superfast transmission new IS is not as good as BMW. Lexus has to try harder.

My next door neighbor was considering buying an E90... but he finally decided to get the new Lexus IS. So I guess that's a pretty good indication.

The next A4(B8) is suppose to be a giant can of whoop ass for the 3 series. We'll see how it pans out... but Audi is getting closer than anyone else right now.
