Dealership or RRT shop?
So I'm looking for a shop to install some side skirts, diffuser, etc.
in the DC area, I've found several high end shops, but they specialize in Porshe and Ferrari. I've found RRT racing in Sterling, but looking at their shop parking lot; they have a lot of very older old bmw. I didn't see anything newer than 2010. Zero 2019 or 2020 m850i or m8s. the dealership offers to do it tomorrow, get me a loaner, and get it done. but RRT gave me a quick quote that's half the price of the dealership, but they are twice as far from me, and they need 2-3 weeks. what would you do with yours? |

So I look at it like this:
Are the parts OEM? And if so how often does a BMW really install those parts vs the port. Also you will be the mercy of the dealer hourly rate and they wont warranty a bad install as its not their parts they sold (assumption). There are so many reputable installers all over that can do this. I have no idea what RRT is but Im sure there are others. Installing a diffuser is not like doing warranty or service work. Installing side skirts are plug and play. Basically I have never taken my cars for any mods like this to a dealership. Just a simple search yielded some other options: https://www.google.com/search?sxsrf=...4dUDCAk&uact=5 At worst drive your car over the Left Coast and have Ben do it Sorry Ben I had to

There are pros and cons with both. The only and MAIN reason why I would NOT choose the dealer in this case, is that these are not OEM parts so if something goes wrong or they need longer than planned or advised, you will sit on the extra labor, money and eventually issues....should any arise. Best is to take some time if needed to research and find a reputable shop that has at least some experience in mounting these non-OEM parts and has dealt, or better deals with aerodynamic components mods often. I would drive to them then even if they are located further away. I am prepared to drive a few hours to my favorite shop (mods, tuning or whatever treats to the car) when I think it's worth it and combined with a get-away trip whenever possible. But that may not be worth it for everyone.
I did some retrofts at BMW directly because they were original parts and because I know the SA there and also know they work top class in all respects. But generally, and with my previous cars, I most often did NOT go the dealer even when the mods involved OEM components. |

I know the other shops are Porsche/Ferrari shops but Porsche guys mod their cars. The install seems easy enough even if the dealer specializes in other high end Marques I'm sure they can easily do the work
I wouldn't wait 2-3 weeks that's for sure Other option is a very good body shop. They probably have the most skill in aligning and installing parts

RRT is a legit shop, have taken my M6GC there and would do it again without thought. Another reputable shop would be Loudoun County Exotics, they do everything there and the guys are top notch, the owner Greg cant speak highly enough about.
