Another reason the M850i needs an exhaust

All proud yesterday evening walking back to our cars after drinks and dinner, my friend (who owns a Rivian) was parked next to me. I said “this is what you miss with an EV”

I triple clicked for the remote start….

And then, as we were both standing there, the V8 woke up to a highly muffled cold start.

It didn’t have the impact that I had intended.

Suffice to say, I didnt win anyone over to internal combustion last night, LOL

Have you coded your car to start in sport? When I remote start, the car revs up, similar to the “start-up roar” feature of an MHD tune.

I believe that is for the speaker sound being pumped into the cabin.

It does open the valve a bit more when engine sounds set to sporty.

Yes, the only way to have the car remote start in sport is through coding. You can manually start the car in sport by entering the car while it’s off, pressing the sport mode button, then starting the car. You’ll notice an exhaust roar and burbles when starting in sport. I can upload a YouTube video to demonstrate what it’ll sound like.

It's not the speakers. I even posted a video with the sound. No need for coding...

Excuse the poor video quality, as I shot this with my phone at night in a parking garage. Here is a video of a remote start in sport mode. It’s pretty loud in person which I like.

I don't have Bimmercode, so I'll just make do.

I definitely think the start up is pretty decent when in an enclosed space, like a garage with bare concrete walls, etc.

But when outdoors, it loses all of its steam. That's the mufflers doing their thing. With a muffler delete/bypass, this thing would announce itself to the world boldly (rudely?) on start up, even outdoors.

Absolutely correct but it does impact the exhaust as per my testing (older post on that). In this case it may be somewhat overriding the default remote start in "comfort". However, with my exhaust flaps wide open a remote start with my setting (depending on driving mode) it's flat out louder.

I did pull the fuse to negate ASD but ending up putting it back into play. Why? The wife gets a kick out of it when she's with me in the car as the B&W is 20% max. Me? I enjoy the real exhaust sound readily available vs her kick on the ASD.

Me solo, hit the Sport Individual (engine on Sport Plus) and the cold starts are even louder than remote as it starts in Comfort. Could override the default start with Bimmercode but it's a simple press Sport and then start when I'm in the car. When I'm solo the B&W is 60% plus and ASD is lost in the mix. 👍
