But then again, M550's and X5/6's with V8's are, this leads me to believe there were issues with AC compressors (they're made by RF when a V8 is involved) and some early ones were made without the defective component/s and most did not. I also believe M850 production was cut back for MY '20 as the M8's rolled out, which would also help to explain things...

According to my SA the primary focus was on the 840s, M850i GCs and of course the M8 varients considering there were still a bevy of 2019 M850i Coupes and Convertibles on the ground. In other words very similar to the existing 2020 M8s on the ground but such a volume there will be no allocations whatsoever for the 2021 MY. A side note is that the BMW NA website configurator still is showing 2020 builds for the 8-series yet we all know that is not possible at this point. Just another example of BMW not being able to fight their way out of paper bag in the modern digital age. |

BUMP
Add me onto the list of owners getting A/C failure. 3600 miles/6 months in. 10/10 the last BMW I'll ever get. Most expensive one, endless problems... |

One would also think the service departments would be better about getting this fixed, which they aren't. Mercedes cars have their problems, but I've never had an issue about service. |

Doesn't qualify under lemon law for the state of MA. I wouldn't wish this car on anyone else (lease transfer is out), so best I can do is trade it into another dealer. |

Ice cold AC! Finally had the back ordered compressor installed, along with the condenser and a valve. Evaporator wasn’t touched, so engine bay work only.
Ours was partially working, phasing between cold and warm which made them believe first that this was a software issue. Can say I am happy it’s done but disappointed with the time to get this resolved. Our dealer is working with BMW to get us some money for the downtime... |

M8 CP AC Issue improved
I had similar problems. Still in break in period (<400 miles). Dealership said no recalls or service bulletin. The plan is to leave it with them for 1200 mile service and inspect the compressor/AC system. In the meantime I've changed a few climate settings which seem to help. I turned OFF indirect ventilation, upper vent "Temperature adjustment" to cooler setting, and fan speed to "strong".

Spoke with my dealer in Naples about the AC situation last week, he said they have not had one 8 series M850/M8 in for the issue.

There is definitely a service bulletin for the techs at the dealerships. Was previously mentioned in another's earlier post, but some vehicles manufactured last year were affected. They replaced my entire A/C unit (compressor, condenser, evaporator, all the valves/connections). So far everything is working like it should. Still in the process of lemoning the vehicle |

Has anyone even seen the TSB for this issue yet? I would be really nice to actually know the VIN/prod date range affected!

I thought it maybe helpful to post a copy of our repair details for others in case their dealer is confused on a similar problem
All repairs were in the engine bay only... |

I've had my 840d since March 2020. Haven't driven it too much because of COVID but after 1000 miles the AC and heating decided it had a mind of its own. I thought it might be a glitch and reset the head unit but today I had a 300 mile round trip and it was cold (9 degrees) and raining, I'd set it on 18 degrees with moderate fan (no AC and no auto) it would blow Air conditioned cold for 15 minutes then Max hot for 15 minutes, this happened through my entire journey and irrelevant of my heater or AC settings it does the same. Before I take it to the dealer who will obviously notice that nothing is wrong and nothing needs fixing, has anyone else in UK 8 series had this issue and did your dealer fix it?
Any help or feedback would be appreciated, it seems a lot of early production cars seem to have heater problems like mine but you wouLd have thought this would have been fixed 18 months into production...
